We are currently using Singapore and considering switching to Math Mammoth. I have a few questions. Does MM do mental math? How does MM teach addition? Does it teach adding by making ten like Singapore? How do the word problems compare?

Things move pretty quickly around here......bump

Also, you may want to try doing a search for Math Mammoth. There are tons of posts about it. It's a wonderful program and it's working well for my dc!! It is very similar to SM but with more built in review which is one of the reasons why so many of us love it. My answer would be "yes" to all your questions. The word problems are are very good but are comparable to the ones found in the text/workbooks rather than CWP. FWIW, I'm using CWP along with MM.

Again, do a search and you will find a well of information.

I agree with the above but I wanted to add....I don't know how old your child is or if this is relevant in your situation but I wanted to mention this because of my daughter and her learning style. Although MM is just like SM in terms of topics and mental math there is a difference in presentation. SM uses really cute illustrations that can draw the interest of a child(that can also be a bad thing for children who don't need the cute pictures) The pictures in MM are different. They are great for someone who wants straight forward simple pictures. I am not downing MM cause I have it here and will pull out the material if needed. My daughter loves the SM pictures and it draws her in and makes her want to keep doing math with no frustration. She used to cry during math time cause I was using plain materials.

Back to your questions:001_smile:

Yes, it does a great job of teaching different ways to solve problems. It is very easy to use as everything is in one place. The word problems are really good but like the other poster said you can always add the word problems book.
