LNC
Does anyone know if homeschoolers can enroll in these courses??? In reading the website it looks like it is designed for students enrolled in public high schools to be able to take all offered courses, that may not be taught at their local high school. I hope we can utilize this, it looks like an amazing option. http://www.ncvps.org/courses/catalogue/fall10trad.html
Alyce
This is just a version of homeschool on line. If your child uses it they must use all of it not just part of it and are considered a public school child. It's just another version of a charter school. lil'red
I spoke with the guidance counselor at the high school in our district and was told that homeschoolers could participate, but there is a fee for each course. ETA: Jane is correct, (it has been a while since I checked into this), there is no fee for the couse, but you do have to purchase the necessary books and supplies. Maybe it depends on the county. When we lived in Transylvania county they allowed homeschoolers to do dual enrollment at the local high school. As long as they did not go over a certain amount of hours they were still considered homeschoolers. In Gaston county they do not allow dual enrollment. LNC
If I had to pay I would go with Penn Homeschoolers, who have excellent instructors and a proven track record... I have a few years still to see how they do. I want to start some AP in 9th...
Jane in NC
From the NC Department of nonpublic instruction website in the homeschooling FAQ: May I enroll my child in the North Carolina Virtual Public School program? Enrollment in the program is for North Carolina public school students. The authorizing legislation for the North Carolina Virtual Public School states: "NCVPS shall be available at no cost to all students in North Carolina who are enrolled in North Carolina's public schools, Department of Defense schools, and schools operated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs." In order for a non-public school student to participate in it, the local public school system must have available vacancies in the program; if a vacancy exists, the student is then enrolled in and through that local public school system. My son took AP Latin through the NCVPS. A student's participation in NCVPS will depend on a public school counselor willing to go the extra mile. We did pay for the text books and the AP exam itself but no other fees. Best, Jane P.S. NC Learn and Earn is another option. My son was offered the opportunity to do Learn and Earn as a dual enrolled student at the CC, but did not participate. cathmom
If you have a charter school nearby, they may be willing to let you take it through them. But you would have to go there and use their computer most likely.
