Is the ACT test offered more than once a year?

Recommended Posts

sigh, disregard the first part. . .I just found the test listings. I really should finish my coffee before trying to do anything!

However, I would still like to hear from those of you who have children that have taken it as to whether they added the writing part. Did you find it beneficial??

Yes, my son also took the writing portion because several of the colleges he applied to required it. If you go to the admissions portion of the web sites of most colleges, you can find out what testing they require.

While you are there, take a look and see if they have any special requirements for homeschooled students. Some colleges do and others don't. If they have special requirements, you want to know about those in advance so you can plan for them.

Best wishes,

Brenda

#1 took it both with & without the writing. The good think w/the ACT is that the writing is not averaged into the total score--it's a completely separate score. Also the questions are "real life" asking about uniforms in schools, vending machines and the like. They just want to see how well you can string an essay together in a limited time. I suggest studying the 5-paragraph-theme.

Yes, my boys do it with the writing as many more colleges are requiring it that way including several they are or were interested in.

Plus, beware of the multiple test dates listed. Based on where you live it may or may not be offered that often. Where we live in PA we only have two test dates that are within a reasonable drive from us (meaning within a couple of hours). Those are Oct and April. That surprised me when I went to sign my oldest up.
