Apologia Biology: cost, materials, options?

Recommended Posts

I was planning on using Apologia Biology next year for both my dds. I just put what I thought I needed in my RR cart. We already have an excellent microscope.

$40.00 Dissecting Lab Materials

$80.00 Biology Lab Materials

$59.95 Exploring Creation w/ Biology Set

$3.95 Exploring Creation w/ Biology Tests

Total: $183.90

I'm having sticker shock. I was thinking high school would cost about $100/course. Now I'd be having both girls use it, so I guess it is right there...but still! I'd need all of the above, right?

Any less expensive options? I must go see what the WTM actually suggests!

I bought the books from RR & the lab kit & slides from Home Science Tools. We already have a microscope. I thought of buying them used, but since I was going to have surgery & didn't know if I could get to any used curricula sales plus any I saw used online weren't that much cheaper with shipping, I bought them new. I do plan to sell them after my 3 use it.

It's a big upfront cost, but only the dissection animals are consumable (you'll still have even the tool kit and rubber pad). So, your cost for the next four should only be for the dissection animals. Also, I've found Home Science Tools to have excellent prices on the microscope and dissection kits. You should be able to find the text/answer key used -- just make sure to get the 2nd edition.

HTH,

Lisa
