Anyone done this type of schedule through high school?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done a loop schedule throughout high school?

I saw a thread on it and became very interested. I would like to log more volunteer hours at the animal shelter and I have lots of reading I would love to do in the afternoons. It is educational reading, not drivel.

So, I set up a schedule somewhat like this:

Loop 1: Math, Science, Ital., Amer. Lit., Astron., History.

Loop 2: Science, Math, Health, Music, Italian, Amer. Lit.

Loop 3: Math, Science, Astron., History, Health, Music.

Loop 4: Science, Math, Italian, Amer. Lit., Astron., History

Day 5 I would do Science and Math, and then makeup for whatever classes overflowed.

Math and Science would be 45 minutes a day while all the rest would be about 30 minutes a day. That would be 3.5 hours daily, but is that adequate for high school?

Like I said, the afternoon would be for volunteering, reading for Amer. Lit., Health, Astronomy, History, and Italian and whatever projects I might have.

I am testing it out tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

Has anyone else done this, or something similar?

Thanks.

It looks interesting! In previous years, we've done something similar in that we look at each subject and decide how many days a week it needs to be done. So some are two or three days a week, while math and others are for all five.

I was wondering how you'd manage to get all the history done in 30 minutes, but I see that you'll still be doing reading for that and other courses in the afternoon. :) I'd just be surprised if 45 minutes is enough to complete your math course. We find it takes about twice that long to finish a lesson, but we're not using MUS, so that may be all that you need.

I think trying it for a week is a great idea! You'll know by then if it's workable or not. Let us know how it goes. :) And I wouldn't look at your schedule as only 3.5 hours a day. The reading for your different subjects, or other academic interests, counts as high school work as well.

Thanks. The History course I am using is made to be a 1/2 year course. It is free online- http://www.montereyinstitute.org/courses/AP%20US%20History%20II/nroc%20prototype%20files/coursestartc.html

I plan on doing a lot of projects to help fill up the other 1/2 year credit so that will all be done during the afternoon.

Thanks :)

Oh, and for the math, I do 1 lesson a week so I only have 1 worksheet a day after I watch the lesson DVD on day 1. The worksheet takes me about 20 minutes to do if I get it and the rest of the time I use Lial's math book to make sure the I understand it completely.
