Shelly in IL
really made the decision!! I just ordered Angelicum Academy's (Great Book Academy) Great Books program and online discussion. Both my son and I are very excited, I hope it is as good as it seems. So, this sounds like a decision - hey, it's only July, right? Here we go for the next round of this ride... Wahoo... Faithr
Let us know how it goes! I've always found their website really overwhelming. I wonder how they break things down for you. Good luck!
Shelly in IL
He is in the online class. He reads, they discuss. Mom sits quietly by nodding approvingly. (OK, that is my dream - don't you dare rain on my parade!! :))
Sunshine State Sue
I'm glad, Shelly. You can be Dorothy starting out on the yellow brick road. I'm the scarecrow holding your hand. I want to know how GBA goes. I'm intrigued.
Shelly in IL
You've been a great help to me while we've been making this decision. I think the final straw was just how adamant my son was about going to the private high school. He just didn't want to go. For the money, we can do alot of really great things here. Plus there is my husband's free travel for us. That is a great perk. We are going to Williamsburg's homeschool days for celebration while everyone else is in school. It does make me feel good to know that this is what ds wants to do (homeschool high school), and having the money to outsource a few classes rather than pay private school tuition makes me feel like I'm being a good steward of our family finances. I'm jealous of your travel benefits. I had those once upon a time... :grouphug:
lavender
I'm interested in GBA for my kids but not as brave as you are to "pull the trigger". Please keep us updated on your thoughts and observations! :001_smile:;)
Shelly in IL
WE are doing awesome. Best year so far for us. My son, the freshman, is so much more independent this year that ds10 in 5th grade is getting tons more attention. I pray it continues to go this well. We have had 2 weeks of GBA classes. So far he has read: Hesiod's Theogony, Aeschylus' Prometheus Bound and is into the 1st half of the Iliad. He really likes the class. I'll see how it goes, but so far I'm happy and so is he.
