Is anyone using Mystery of History for High School?

Recommended Posts

I would possibly like to use it with my 10th grader for the Middle Ages.

If you have used this program, how do you like it? Is there a literature component? I couldn't tell from the website. I was thinking if it doesn't, maybe I could supplement via Omnibus II or WTM .

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't use it as a spine for high school. As a reference book? YES! This is geared for 3rd to 5th graders. I know it can go up to 8th graders but it is very babyish.

It makes a great reference book in my opinion. Hopefully others will chime in.

If your child has covered that time period before, I do not think MOH 2 will fit the bill for your high schooler's studies. However, if your child has not really ever studied that period (not counting any books read in 1-3 grade), then MOH could be a very easy, doable spine. On its own though, even with completing the activities for older children (meant to be 6-8th grade), I do not think you could ramp up MOH 2 to be a solid, college-prep level course.

*However*, I do think you could use the text, the quizzes, the timeline and mapping activities as a spine and round out your course by using Hewitt's World History Honors Mddle Ages Syllabus. All of Hewitt's History courses use a text as a spine (for WH, generally Streams of Civilization) and then *add on* particular projects, a set number of chapter questions, books to read, and essay tests. You could easily substitute MOH 2 for the Streams of Civilization chapters.

Also, Hewitt's Honor Courses strive to not be merely college-prep, but college-level classes. They are quite demanding. Each syllabus outlines the requirements to earn an "A," "B," and "C" grade. The requirements for a "B" grade are rigorous enough to earn an "A" in the class without an Honor's designation.
