Jane Elliot
This summer we're applying for colleges for the school year starting fall 2011. So, ds has not yet begun his senior year. On his transcript, do I list courses he plans to take during his senior year or do I leave that part blank? And could someone please remind me how many credits we're aiming for. I remember it being 24-28. Is that right? ETA: On second thought, I think I should have posted this on the high school board. I'm going to cross-post. TravelingChris
Yes, you do list the courses for senior high and if you apply before first semester is done, you don't have any grades for those. Normally the school will want you to send in a midyear report with first semester grades. You only send in a final transcript to whatever school your child decides to attend and you have already paid the deposit which has to be done at almost all schools by May 1st (not the final transcript, just the decision and the deposit). Janet in WA
For these courses, we had a separate area on our transcripts titled "Courses in Progress". We included expected completion dates and credits that would be earned when each course was completed. As our sons completed each of these courses, we "bumped them up" into the "Courses Completed" area of the transcript.
Chris in VA
Friendly question-- Why are you applying so early?
Barb_
Friendly question--Why are you applying so early? LOL, I'm glad you asked. I wondered too. I didn't realize they took applications before the school year began. Learn something new all the time. Barb
Halftime Hope
LOL, I'm glad you asked. I wondered too. I didn't realize they took applications before the school year began. Learn something new all the time. Barb around here, many of the top performing kids who are *extremely* busy during the school year (think band season, for example) or who letter in a fall sport and do drama, complete their applications during the summer. LynnG in Arizona
I completed my eldest dd's transcript with the courses grouped by subject - no dates given. I just included her senior year courses and put "In Progress" after the course name. So her English section might look like this: English I English II English III English IV (in progress) You get the idea. :)
Guest Barb B
Friendly question--Why are you applying so early? We are starting too. Having 2 other kids to homeschool plus one going intio 12th grade (all done at home) I knew I NEEDED all my stuff I have to complete for applications done now. So, I am working on transcripts, course descriptions, counselor forms, homeschool suplements and a homeschool philosophy (can't remember which school wanted this). Not that ds might not add some schools to his list once school starts - but he is planning to apply to several this summer. Most begin acceptin applications August 1. Ds wants to get essays out of the way, not to mention the applications and reccommendations. It is time consuming! Starting in summer is a must around my house!
