dancer67
I will not get into details, but it may come down to us pulling our daughter out of high school. BUT, she would be entering grade 12. Her Senior year. Has anyone ever done this? Long story short, it all has to do with severe bullying. A few questions. Would I request her transcript from the public school, and then make my own for Senior year? She is in a vocational high school taking cosmetology. She only needs 1000 hours to take her state boards. She has 850 hours right now. I *think* the school would allow her to JUST go in for her shop week, and allow me to homeschool her for academics. But she would still have to go to the high school for her "Related" class(Related meaning the academic/book work for Cosmo) I am not sure. But would kind of be a mute point because the reson I would be pulling her is because of bullying) Or, I may have to contact the CC to see if they would accept her hours from the high school so she can take her boards. hmmm..... My main concern is how to get her "graduated". She only needs one more year of English, Math(any math), and a Science. And she would fullfill her 4 yrs of English, Math and Science. (well, let me clarify....She has to have 4 years of English. Our state only "suggests" 4 years of Math and Science, it is not a requirement, unless you choose to go to a 4 year College) If she goes to college, it would be a community college only. So how do I do her transcripts from 3 years of public high school, and one year of homeschool? I am seking information, just in case. Thanks! lisabees
Well, ds16 is coming home next year and he'll be a junior. I don't know anything about hs a high school student, but here are my thoughts. Take her out and provide your own hs transcript for her senior year. Or she can get her GED. Or enroll her in cc early. If she has fulfilled all of her requirements except English, maybe you can tack that on to her cc course load (as dual enrollment). Hopefully, the experts will chime in! Best wishes. What a shame she's had to go through this. Hard for Mom, too, I'm sure. :001_huh:
EKS
Could you put her in cc for one term to get those three credits? Would the school accept that?
Jann in TX
If you can get your dd's Dr to write a note that the bullying is causing undo stress for your dd and is a threat to her health, she may be able to attend her shop class and then have a 'homebound' teacher work with her on her remaining classes. This way she will not loose her vocational credit hours... It would be a shame if she had to start the program all over again... I'd talk to the school administrators.. bullying has had a LOT of press time this past year... and you can politely press the issue of your daughter's safety (and anxiety level) with them. Pamela H in Texas
I think you have to do whatever it takes for your daughter's safety and health, but I would definitely be on the phone talking to anyone and everyone to handle both your situations: the bullying and the program hours. Like you said, she may be able to do the required work at the high school for that program while homeschooling the rest. Or the college may be an option. Check with cosmotology schools also. However, I would not hesitate to be a thorn in the side of the school over the bullying issue. As Jann said, the press has been heavy this year about it and they won't want it to be THEM next. dancer67
Well, the school is plenty aware of the situation because we have gone to court, and currently there is a Harassment Order in place on this particular person to stay away from my dd. The school did all they could, and they were very good about dealing with this issue with the best resources they had. It just wasn't enough so I took it a step further. My concern was/is her shop hours. I am going to contact the CC college and ask them about dual enrollment for English and transferring shop hours, just in case. If not, I am certain the school will allow her to continue Cosmo there, and it would only be until December, every other week. They actually allow homeschoolers to do this starting in 9th grade. One week of a vocation at the school, and one week at home for academics. We could fullfill our English requirement here at home. Make my own HS transcript, and request the schools and combine the two? Then issue a homeschool diploma? Thanks for the help. ETA: My 11 yo will NOT go to public high school. I should have never allowed my older daughter to go back to public school.
Jann in TX
My dd attended PS for 9th grade and the first 4 weeks of 10th... I have a copy of her PS transcript that I submit along with her homeschool one. Her homeschool transcript is 'complete' meaning it lists all of her high school courses--homeschooled, public schooled and dual enrollment. I did make a notation next to the courses not completed at home. I included her PS transcript because it is a legal document.
Ellie
It might help if we knew which state you live in. :-)
dancer67
My state does not have any graduation requirements for homeschoolers. I am only going by what a typical high school graduation course of study in my state would look like.(I already graduated one from homeschool high school in 2008) My child has no plans on attending a 4 year school right away. She would come out with a hairdressing license(If she continued on in her Senior year and took her boards, or finished at a CC), and if she did go to college, it would be a CC and she would major in Psychology and then transfer. Jann, that makes perfect sense then. If for some reason that is what we decide to do, I will set up our transcripts in that fashion. I will keep everyone posted, and thank you all once again for all the wonderful help!
