Miss Marple
Ds #2 is heading to Hillsdale College right now (just landed at Detroit Airport). He's participating in their Western Civilization Study Abroad program as well as giving the college a good "look over". He's so excited - Rome, Venice, Florence, Pompeii - and I'm so jealous :glare: This is really the only college he's shown much interest in so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to have him attend Hillsdale even though it is so far from home. But if he isn't comfortable there...well, we'll have to start over :001_huh: I think this is going to be a busy year...:tongue_smilie:
Susie-Knits
Oh I am jealous too - sounds wonderful. Either way he decides, this adventure will be a plus for him. Keep us updated on his wonderful trip!
Halftime Hope
How wonderful that you both are interested in Hillsdale! Had I the chance to do college over, I'd do it twice, once at Hillsdale in something along the lines of a public policy-related field, and again at Messiah, in something "people-y". :D None of my kids has taken off in anything that would make Hillsdale a first choice, but I do love that institution. One of dd's good online friends from Torrey classes may very well go there next year. And the summer trip, lucky him!! I hope it's the trip of his lifetime!! April in CA
Hi Cynthia! We are beginning the college search for DS 2 as well. DS 1 just graduated high school last Saturday woo-hoo!), and we will begin the great cross-country trek to TX in mid-August to take him to college (LeTourneau in Longview). On the way home, we are thinking about stopping by Texas A&M (talk about different size! LeTu has about 1500 students on campus, A&M has over 50K) and maybe the U of New Mexico. The fun never ends, does it? What does Hillsdale specialize in ? I am not terribly familiar with that school. Younger DS is more eclectic in his interests and may not be an engineer like older DS. Hope your DS 2 has a wonderful time this summer! Blessings, April
Miss Marple
We're thinking about looking at LeTourneau for ds#3. And I attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque many years ago - although I got married, moved, and graduated from the University of Iowa. Hillsdale is a liberal arts school that has been in existence since the late 1800's. It doesn't take any federal funding so they aren't shackled by federal law/rules. It is considered a conservative school. Ds#2 is considering some degree in a financial field and Hillsdale offers those degrees. In fact, it seems to offer more variety and quantity of degrees than many of the other private liberal arts colleges I've seen online. We get their Imprimis magazine and we typically agree with their take on issues - so I think it would be a good fit. Good luck with your search! I'm happy Ds#1 found his niche - and it's close to home.
Basketmaker Amy
My oldest ds went on Hillsdale's Winston Churchill/WWII trip last year and loved it! He wishes he had the money to do another trip this year! I know your son will have a GREAT time. We were pleased with the program. My ds is also interested in attending Hillsdale...I don't know if I want him so far away from home! And it's a lot colder in Michigan than it is in Florida! (He also is a huge University of Florida fan....Go Gators!!!) Best of luck to you and your son!
April in CA
One more question, Cynthia! Could you tell me a bit about the Summer program your son is doing? DS 2 loves to travel, and this might be interesting for him to consider for next summer. Thanks again! I will be happy to answer any questions I can about LeTu for you in exchange! Blessings, April
