johnandtinagilbert
Using resources for freebies and great blogs from this board alongside Apologia Biology, I have planned what I consider an Honors Biology Class with added attention to Young Earth Creationism, Darwin and Evolution. My hope in this study is to prepare my 2 boys (who will both take science classes at a local college via dual enrollment in the proceeding years) by not only cementing our faith and science beliefs, but also by making sure they understand the perspectives they may encounter as they leave home and enter a world that is not Christ centered. I have tried to incorporate Charlotte Mason qualities, visual aids (for my highly visual learner) and a text so they get an idea of what a college workload and environment will be like. All that to say, my boys are growing up and I want to make sure they are ready for the real world! Credit must be given and appreciate expressed (THANK YOU ALL) to those who have not only posted great resources, but have shared so insight and plans with me. I really appreciate the kindness and sharing our this community. My resources were: http://www.squidoo.com/apologiabiology I was truly inspired by this blog. Thank you for sharing your study and plans so wonderfully. I hope my diligence will honor your efforts. Movie List This was posted to a thread asking for helps for biology. What a fun concept! We'll incorporate movie suggestions and simply turn them in for library points :) It will make for a nice popcorn and movie night on Friday evenings! Free Science DVDs These were posted in a thread, so that's how I'll link them. I'm not sure if the offer is still available, but for those of you who got the DVDs, I've incorporated a few in our study. Theswe are not creation based, which is part of my big picture plan for this study. DonnaYoung.org Of course, no Apologia study is easier to use when combined with the efforts of Donna Young and contributors. What a continual blessing to have some ready made lesson plans! That saved me a TON of time! Contact me via email or pm and I'm happy to share :) You'll find 4 lists: LP and Schedule; Materials List; Book Basket List; and a Book Basket List with reviews from Amazon interwoven. I hope this helps or encourages. It's a labor of love for my boys :) Edited June 20, 2010 by johnandtinagilbert

Julie in MN
Free Science DVDs These were posted in a thread, so that's how I'll link them. Theswe are not creation based, which is part of my big picture plan for this study. Tina, This is kind of late to answer, but thanks for posting those. I had been searching for more science materials, other than textbooks. And to answer whether they are still available, yes. Wow, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute just sent me tons of nice, new DVDs, with no shipping fee or anything. Yes, they are very evolution-based, but as you say, high school is the time to prepare my son for the big wide world out there. And by the way, most seem geared to high school (or advanced high school), which I wasn't sure of until I started listening. Apparently they do a "holiday lecture series" each year for high school student from different countries listening in. Julie

Not sure which one you're looking for, but the link that I was thanking her for is quoted in my post above, where it says "free science DVDs." johnandtinagilbert
We had our first movie night...oops a little bossom in the Swamp Thing...I was not expecting this...just a flash in the pond per say, but wanted to give the heads up. Otherwise, we enjoyed the movie, had some popcorn and had some different kind of fun with school. I can't wait until we get to The Fly, 1950's version!
