MicheleinMN
Jump In or The Lively Art of Writing? Both are inexpensive (LAoW is REALLY inexpensive) and teach essay writing, so appropriate for 9th grade.
AngieW in Texas
The theme-based programs at IEW are quite inexpensive. US History-based writing lessons will take you from the beginning all the way through IEW for $49/year for two years. Windows to the World will teach literature analysis and how to write analysis papers for $49. I haven't used it, but Essay Architect looks good and is only $40. http://www.4secondarysolutions.com/Essay_Architect.htm

krstbrwn
I love Windows to the World and Lively Art of Writing. Another good source is Jensen's Format Writing- I think you can get it at CBD for not too much. Kristi
