Pam L.
Hello, I am soon planning on studying govt. with my younger hs son. While I just checked out library books and gathered numerous sources for my older son, I do not wish to do that again. I am possibly looking at Notgrass but so many of the programs all seem to look good. My son is neither a strong reader or writer. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you, Pam
Alyce
The only reading in Notgrass is some original speeches etc. There are no books or papers due like with Notgrasses History books. She likes Notgrass because it is easy to read. I like it because it is easy to use. If you want something in depth then Notgrass is probably not the program you want. It is only a one semester course so it's is somewhat general in the topics covered.
Pegasus
How about using a PASS textbook? They are specifically designed for high school students who need an easy to understand format. You can download the student book free and see if it would meet your needs. The teacher books are available very inexpensively as well $3.50 + $3.50shipping. http://www.pass.leon.k12.fl.us/default.aspx
kortney in AL
I've also asked this question a few weeks ago. One answer I got was that the American government course put out by Great Source was liked by alot of people on this board. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm looking into it. Kelli in TN
We are looking into the the GenJ courses.. We don't have a local chapter, but the online resources look worth joining for on their own. (We used to have a local chapter but it folded. )
Jean in Wisc
By Great Source. http://www.greatsource.com/store/ProductCatalogController?cmd=Browse&subcmd=LoadDetail&level1Code=07&level2Code=070&level3Code=028&frontOrBack=F&sortProductsBy=SEQ_TITLE&division=G01 If you search the boards, you might find more info about it. A number of us have used it.
Suzybearybake
I think we might go ahead with Sonlight's core 400. It looks like it will require more in depth analysis. I have it ordered but have not actually looked at it yet. We are combining the civics related books with Uncle Eric's Economic/ Government books. Pam L.
Thank you to all of you! I really appreciate you taking the time to show me some curriculums/programs I had not yet heard of. I will be looking into these as I carefully consider what will be best for my son. Blessings, Pam
Michelle in AL
If you want something simple, we're using Painless American Government. It's interesting and written in an entertaining way. It also has short quizzes and extra project ideas. You can find it at Amazon. Blessings, Michelle
