Red Wagon Apologia DVD's

Recommended Posts

Hi all- I wanted to share with you a wonderful experience I just had- keep in mind it is a Holiday Weekend.

Background: I am looking into the 16 week summer program of Red Wagon's Apologia DVD's for one of my sons. Earlier, I saw that they had listed 1.0 series on clearance and I had quite a few questions about the dvd's: if the 1.0 dvd's would work for the 16 week program, if the 16 week program was a good fit for my son, whether either were compatiable with the 1st edition books- I already own, ect. (Poor man)

Experience: So I emailed Dr. Rosenon using the email address from the site with the thought I would get a rote email about the programs sometime next week. Nope, He responded within an hour and patiently answered all my questions. It was wonderful. I am very impressed and even more excited about using his dvd's because now I know if we get into trouble, Dr. Rosenon is just an email away to help us get back on track. :D

That's very nice to hear! I've been considering the Red Wagon Tutorials DVD to use this fall because I think my son will need extra auditory input. I have some other biology resources- Teaching Company, etc, but I think a lecture that complements Apologia & can be played over again, if necessary, will be helpful.

do they work with the 1st edition books??? I have 1st edition books for General Science & Physical Science. My ds work well with audio-visual editions, so I'm watching these theads closely. As we are on the otherside of the world, any internet courses are out due to the time difference (& high price in US$s)

Blessings,

Hi- Sorry it has taken so long to respond- NO he said he uses 2nd Edition only- 1.0 is just the first class he recorded. 2.0 second class and so forth. He told me that I really should invest in the newer edition even though we own the 1st. There are some key differences that my son will have to know for the lessons- Note: We were talking about the 16 week class online the majority of the time.

I hope this helps.

I can honestly say I am impressed with his response time and his patience. I emailed his this morning and he again responded with in 3 hours and was very helpful.

Hi!

Curious to know, where I can find out more about these DVDs and about the 16 wk class? An earlier post linked to CBD Apologia DVD-Roms with lectures- are these the same? It didn't list Red Wagon as the publisher (I believe it said Apologia). Anway, any help/links would be great!

Thanks again :)

The DVD's can be found at redwagontutorial.com - they are the same as the ones at CBD but CBD's are cheaper.

Dr. Rosenoff has been teaching for Potter's School for several years. I believe Dr. Wile hired him for the position- He has been teaching classes for at least 3 years online- over the last 2 years he has been working with Apologia to create the DVD-R series.

While I just purchased the Chemistry from his site- since you can not get it from CBD yet- I did have my son go on and test out the sample classes Dr. Rosenoff has listed to see if it would be a good fit since he has ADHD. (The set through Red Wagon is $150) My son really wanted to do the online class for $250 in the fall. But it was filled. My son saw that- Dr. Rosenoff has an online 16 week summer course that he wanted to try but he is very young and I ? whether he can keep up even though he is very bright. Over the last couple days, I have had a couple of correspondences with Dr. Rosenoff about the youngster and came to the conclusion it would be a better investment to get the video's this year and enroll him in another online class for next year- so he will have time to mature.

There are other options than just the DVD's (which is designed to be an independent study course) and Online Courses- he does provide Downloaded pre-recorded classes with support and graded tests as an option. Also, you can download separate modules also with support.

But I will tell you if there was an opening in his class for the fall, my son would be in it. I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH HIS FRANKNESS, HONESTY, AND WILLINGNESS TO HELP ME FIND THE RIGHT FIT FOR MY SON- NOT JUST SELL ME ON A DVD OR A COURSE.

All this information and more you can access at redwagontutorial.com or through the Apologia website go to online downloaded courses- it will link you to Dr. Rosenoff's site.

I know this is wordy but it is worth it to look into.

Good Luck.

I have heard a lot about these two for Apologia Science and I was wondering if anyone could share their preferences with me? Specifically, I was wondering which you thought to be better at preparing the student for college bound courses?

It sounds to me that the Red Wagon tutuorial would do a better job at teaching the course with minimal parent involvement while D.I.V.E goes into deeper discussion of the subject matter and assumes the subject matter of the course can be tackled by the student pretty much on their own.

Could anyone share their experience?

Thanks,

Susan

I would LOVE to know if anyone knows whether there will be a DVD on Chemistry this year.....

Brenda,

On the site finders-keepers.net, it says the DVD is due out for the end of June. You can preorder it. That's where I got my Biology, and it came in a timely fashion.

Hi- Chemistry just came out- we got ours last week. It is just like the samples and my boys are already using it. It is nice-to break up the reading schedule with the Lessons.

I don;t use Apologia. I have the BJU books and use DIVE. I don't need to hardly ever help my daughter at all. I think I helped a little bit in Chemistry and haven't helped at all in Biology. She has no problems doing the work by herself and she isn't a particularly science oriented child.

Is it roughly a DVD per day's "installment" of the module. Most people do Apologia modules, approx 1 module every 10-14 class days. Do the tutorials offer a lecture type explanation of the module's "daily" portion?

How long are the DVD sessions?

Thanks = Lisaj

Finders-Keepers is currently selling the DVDs for $105. They said they will be that price for a couple more weeks then up to $150. Also, anyone using 1st edition books should contact Red Wagon Tutorials and see if they have any of the 1st edition DVDs left. He was giving them away for $10. Only 1 per family allowed but I got the biology this way and will order the new Chemistry. He is great about returning e-mails and has lots of helpful advice.

Here is the link I found for the 1st ed. dvds:

Hopefully they still have a few left. And they were for all the apologia high school sciences.
