I am new here and new to homeschooling. My dd requested to be homeschooled for 9th grade a few months ago. We haven't decided for sure if we will. A major factor is the KEES money here in KY. It sounds like homeschooled students only receive a one time amount based on their ACT scores. Going to a high school, one would receive a larger amount based on grades and GPA. It is also, granted every year for 4 years as long as the student's GPA is within a certain range. For example, my son, who is graduating from public high school this year, will receive $2300 per year (2 semesters) for 4 years. That is nothing to sneeze at. A friend of mine whose son attends a private Christian school said that he will get KEES money. That got me to thinking that if a high school student is enrolled in Abeka Academy (the accredited program), would that qualify. I called KHEAA to see if, in fact, that private Christian school is a qualifying school. I was told that the KEES coordinator had gone home and to call back tomorrow morning. I am thinking (hoping) that the private Christian school qualifies and then I'll ask if a student is enrolled in another accredited high school (Abeka, albeit "correspondence") would that qualify. Does anyone know? Thank you in advance.

I'll be interested to hear what you find out, as we're also in Kentucky. A couple of years ago, I tried to reason with officials here that students taking AP coursework through accredited programs (such as PA homeschoolers), then testing and receiving scores on those tests of 3, 4, or 5, should at least receive the KEES money for those courses. Also, those taking dual credit courses (the actual, REAL college course, as opposed to an AP that PURPORTS to be equal to a college course) should qualify. No go. It's maintain the status quo all the way.... We could sue over it, but who has the time?
