How is this for a final course list? I was thinking of adding Government/Economics which is a year long course, but decided it might be too much work. Guest Cheryl in SoCal
That's wonderful; you must feel great to have it done! We'll be using your math choice in a year, your science choice next year and have used your health choice:001_smile:

Hunter's Moon
Thank you everyone! You have all been extremely helpful and extremely friendly. Honestly, I probably wouldn't be getting homeschooled next year had I not found this site. Everyone on here was so kind and helpful. I am really looking forward to home schooling and I know I am lucky to be able to experience it. We're actually starting July 12th because I can't wait :D My mom is pretty physched too. Even though she doesn't come on and ask questions and such on here, I do tell her all the advice I get on here and she is very greatful as well. Both of my parents are proud of me for all the in-depth research I did. I even give my dad weekly price updates on my curriculum. I, of course, cannot take all the credit because as I said, without this site, I probably wouldn't be getting homeschooled. Had we found this site when I was in 7th grade (when we originally wanted to begin homeschooling) there is no doubt in my mind I would be getting homeschooled right now. Thank you :D

Nan in Mass
Looks good! And have you decided on a modus operendai (or however you spell it)? And a method for keeping track of what you do? And what did you put for your "mutually agreed upon method of assessment"? Make sure you hang onto your application so you can copy it for next year. I reused somebody else's who reused somebody else's. It is easier to just fill in the details than to rewrite the whole thing. -Nan

Mouse
:auto: looks like you are on the right road. You might check into a career of research and development. Who knows maybe one day you will be in project management.! Great job and wishing you the best this year
Hunter's Moon
Thank you everyone! And Nan in Mass., I chose the annual progress report for the eval, and we'll be using Sked Track and Homeschool Tracker to keep track of everything. Plus, we each got a planner. Mine is 52 weeks and my moms is 4 year high school planner. :D
DebbS
You can save Government and Economics for next year - it'll give you something to look forward to! You've done such an excellent job of researching your coursework and I agree with the others that you should make that clear to prospective colleges and/or employers. Keep hanging out here...I bet I'm not the only one who wants to see how you're doing and is wanting to offer encouragement and help throughout the coming year. You're an impressive young lady. Stacy in NJ
through this whole process. It will be a wonderful document for you as you progress through the next two years and also a neat thing to show potential college admission officials. Do you have a reading list for American Lit? A specific grammar text? What about composition? How will you get feedback on your writing? Edited June 21, 2010 by Stacy in NJ

memphispeg
Great job. We are also in our 1st year of hs. My dd is doing the Am Lit/US Hist combo as well. We are using the Norton Anthology for a lit. source. We are combining it with a Rhetoric book since college classes seem to be doing rhetorical analysis of Am. Lit. That approach is particularly valuable in the early american writings so that you not only get historical info. out of them but, can learn to appreciate their literary value. emubird
Why did you choose these rather than My Antonia? I'm only asking because I'm curious what you know about these: O Pioneers! by Willa Cather The Sculptor’s Funeral by Willa Cather The Namesake by Willa Cather My daughter recently started O Pioneers (she starts of lot of books -- it seems to be a hobby. Finishing them, though....). However, she said that O Pioneers seemed very similar to My Antonia, at least at the beginning. Also, there was a PBS documentary on Willa Cather that was interesting. Maybe it was in the American Masters series(?). I got it from our library. Yours might have it too.

Everywhere I look online, no one seems sure which one of these books came first. Someone recommended that book on here so I just decided to go with it. If My Antonia is first though, please tell me and I'll happily switch the books. I just wasn't too sure. (wikipedia says My Antonia is the final book but other sites say otherwise). As far as her short stories go, I just read the descriptions of each and thought they might be interested. Plus, they're fully online. So are her books like My Antonia and O Pioneers! in case you didn't know that. Thank you for telling me of the PBS documentary also. I will definitely be looking that up. I've read them both, and they're both good. I don't think it really matters at all which was written first or second - the books don't share any characters - one is not a continuation of the other, and neither is a prerequisite for the other. I'd just look at the plot synopses online and go with whichever one sounds better to you.
