Maria/ME
I am looking at Galore Parks So You Really Want To Learn Science 2 for my dd12. I see that it is for ages 13+, but does anyone have any idea what "grade" this would correlate to? TIA, Maria/ME
StephanieZ
I am not sure of the "right" answer. . . But I bought SYRWTL Science 1 & 2 for next year. . . Using 1 for my 6th grader and 2 for my 8th grader. When I was researching it, I think I figured out that Level 1 is aimed for 6th gr and level 2 to be used for 2 years over 7th & 8th. I don't know how I figured that out. Probably the Galore Park site. I think 2 looks perfectly doable in one year. I am also going to have dd read level 1 this summer before going into 2 since 2 does not appear to duplicate info from 1. . . And so I'd like her to be exposed to level 1 (it looks like pretty easy reading) before going into 2. FWIW, there is a Galore Park yahoo group that is regularly visited by GP staff who are good about answering queries. HTH
Maria/ME
Thank you so much for your reply! That helps a great deal. I had recalled finding info on Galore Parks website, but was hard pressed to find it again!
Laura Corin
I am looking at Galore Parks So You Really Want To Learn Science 2 for my dd12. I see that it is for ages 13+, but does anyone have any idea what "grade" this would correlate to? TIA, Maria/ME That translates into US grades 6-7. Galore Park materials tend to run about a year ahead, however, because they are used in selective private schools rather than state (public) schools. So I wouldn't hesitate to use it for grades 6-7 (bright and interested child) or 7-8 (less motivated child). The 13+ is an exam that is used for entry into selective private schools, so the course is not designed for children aged over thirteen, rather it is intended for preparation for the exam that a child will take at thirteen or over. This is one product from GP that I haven't used, so I'm just translating UK terminology for you - I hope others with first-hand experience can also reply. Maria/ME
Hi, Laura~I wondered if you'd chime in! Thanks so much for doing so~as usual, I appreciate your thoughts on Galore Park! Thanks for clarifying. What we are using for Science right now looks like it may not be working. I had an opportunity to pick "So You Want..." up and wondered if I should. Thanks all!
