4wildberrys
I am totally stumped! What the heck program is out there that is not: Rosetta Stone, computer based, computer linked, has lesson plans, text and workbook and CDs and does not cost a fortune?! My daughter and computer based programs do NOT mix---at all! :001_huh: I am not happy with anything I have seen so far---Seton, Oak Meadows looks good but I don't like the online component, BJU is too expensive. And what is the difference between doing a 'middle school' foreign language program like from Calvert School (the French has been wonderful!) and a high school program??? Stacy in NJ
Getting Started with Spanish. http://www.gettingstartedwithspanish.com/ http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Started-Spanish-Homeschoolers-Self-Taught/dp/0979505135/ It's a simple workbook/text with a downloadable audio component (MP3) for pronunciation help. He'll also do Spanish in 10 Minutes a day. It's also inexpensive ($34.00) and comes with audio cd's. http://www.amazon.com/SPANISH-10-minutes-day%C2%AE-AUDIO/dp/1931873860/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271856846&sr=1-3 Neither has on online for sofware component. I'm not sure if either qualifies has high school level.:001_huh:

Stacy in NJ
Both programs are also very cheap. Getting Started with Spanish is only $18.85 plus shipping, and the downloads are free.
gingersmom
I am using Expresate! from Holt Rinehart Winston (school textbook). After trying out several Spanish programs it is working out quite well. I have student edition, teachers edition, free online access, grammar/vocabulary workbook and another book that includes quizzes, tests, midterms and finals. After wasting money on other programs I am just happy to find one that is working for us. You might also check out this course from University of Missouri- http://www.cdis.missouri.edu/coursedisplay.aspx?k=6605

I'm using the 10 Min a Day book with my son---it's great, but definitely not high school level ;) The Getting Started Books are GREAT too---but she has done some of the Rosetta Stone, so she would know most of the book---we are using the Getting Started Latin book. Thanks for the suggestions!

I also looked at Powerglide----has anyone used it? It has 2 Spanish levels for high school and seems to have good reviews.
Matryoshka
tobreak.com It moves fast but it's everything you are asking for. Thanks for linking that - I'd heard of it, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for for Level 1 - but we're about to start Level 2 now, and after I bought the Level 2 books from our previous program, I've decided I don't like them! - but I really like the looks of the Breaking the Barrier Level 2. I think I may well switch to that!

mcconnellboys
BJU Spanish I has listening CD's, but no video or computer. It has the lesson book, workbook, tests, etc. It does cost up toward $150, but that's far less than most of the other programs out there. If you're not looking for audio, then Barron's has out many Spanish books that are very good. Most are about $
mcconnellboys
I used Powerglide, both adult and child versions, with my older son and we both just hated it. It also didn't have a grammar component. I don't know if they have now changed it or if it's still the same.....
Matryoshka
If you're not looking for audio, then Barron's has out many Spanish books that are very good. Most are about $20 It's a Barron's book we used for Level 1 Spanish, and I quite liked it. I used Spanish the Easy Way, which is now out of print, but it is almost identical to Barron's Spanish Now! Level 1. (They replaced Spanish the Easy Way with EZ Spanish, which they completely redid, and I don't like it as much - maybe they redid it to differentiate the two titles?). Spanish Now! Level 2, in spite of the title which implies continuity from the first level, is written by someone else entirely, and the more I looked at it the less I liked it. I saw the reviews on Amazon which warned me of this, but I couldn't figure out what else to get, and thought I'd just make it work. I'm getting rather excited about Level 2 of Breaking the Barrier. But for Level 1, I did like the Barron's. Spanish Now! Level 1 does have audio CDs with it, and is very reasonably priced.
Brindee
But for Level 1, I did like the Barron's. Spanish Now! Level 1 does have audio CDs with it, and is very reasonably priced.I got this, but then we went with something else. I've held onto it thinking we might get around to it but haven't yet. I just listed it for sale, for cheaper than the already good price, and it's brand new. Just in case anyone is interested...
