dirty ethel rackham
Dd9 is making a poodle skirt for a 4-H project/daddy-daughter sock hop. The sock hop is tomorrow night, so we have to finish this by tomorrow afternoon. Well, I don't have a zipper foot (Mom always did my zippers for me). I went to the store (Joanne's Fabrics and Walmart) and neither of them have the right zipper foot for my machine. Do we just wing it with our all-purpose foot or do I hunt around tomorrow to find one? I think I have one or two more places I can look. Any advice? BTW, the skirt is felt. KatieJ
Well, it's hard to explain this in writing, but I do my zippers without a zipper foot, assuming your machine can change the needle postion. ( it tried to explain my foolproof method, but it's hard without pictures........) So in stead, First I would make sure the seam you are putting the zipper into is a tad larger than normal, maybe a 3/4 inch seam if you can manage that just to be sure you have enough to work with..it's easier for a begiinner. Mark where want the zipper to end, and then sew up the seam with regular stitch lengh and above the mark, baste the seam. Then sew down each side of the zipper the same distance.....and across teh bottom as you go. Take out the basting stitched once the zipper is in place.
