Natalija
Are there any samples pages anywhere online?? Those who use it, do you like it? Our 1st year of TOG for dd in 9th grade fell apart.I couldn't keep up. Want to move to world geography to work through instead for the 9th grade social studies credit. Will it take a full school year to complete this? Any use the Oak Meadow syllabus for this? Is it helpful and worth the $? Thank you!! Any suggestions are very much appreciated! Thanks! :-)) Natalija
Teachin'Mine
Natalija, I have recently bought this book, but won't be using it with dd until next year. I think it will take a full year - at least at our pace. It's got 34 chapters, so I'm planning on a chapter a week. I think it's about 700 pages or so. I don't know anything about the lesson plans, but I can't imagine needing anything more than the text and the Reading Essentials and Study Guide student workbook. Both are available used through Amazon for a very reasonable price. I've read a bit, and it catches my interest very easily. It's visually appealing - lots of color photos - and it does a good job tying in a bit of the history, culture, and fairly recent events with the regions. Some parts are kind of dry, like an encyclopedia, but most are interesting. Or at least they're interesting to me - don't know yet what dd will think. :)
Murphy101
What is the reading essentials?
Teachin'Mine
It's a student guide - the full title is "Reading Essentials and Study Guide". According to what's written on the cover it: "Helps You: - Improve Reading Comprehension - Understand Key Chapter concepts - Prepare for Quizzes and Tests It's 291 pages - the textbook is 841 pages. It looks like there are about three pages per section in each chapter (3 sections per chapter). Some of the sections are Terms to Know, Drawing from Experience, Organizing Your Thoughts, Event and Effect, and Read to Learn. At about nine pages per chapter in the workbook and about 25 pages in the textbook, I can't imagine doing it in less than a year. :tongue_smilie:

Teachin'Mine
Is this the edition you are looking at http://glencoe.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0078606993/ ? That's the 2005 edition which we have. I think that's the most recent available. But you're probably asking the OP and not me. lol Edited April 5, 2010 by Teachin'Mine
