ELA and testing questions

My daughter (9,GR4) just had a psycho-educational evalution (Woodcock Johnson IV, WISC) done through her public school. How can I use the results to translate into what to teach her? She was average in maths, superior in anything to do with language arts. I am new to all of this, and can use some guidance.

Thank you very much,

Tracy

Choose a math program for a 5th grader... There are all sorts of programs out there, but some of the best-loved by people on this board would include Singapore, Miquon, Horizons...

We're currently using Sadlier-Oxford.

For language arts, I would suggest taking a placement test over at K12 (www.k12.com), to help you translate your dd "superior" into a course placement.

You can use the scope & sequence of the K12 program to help you tailor one to meet your dd.

Some popular grammar choices are Rod & Staff and Abeka, there are many others as well.

For literature, you could look at Veritas Press (if you want to use the real books approach), or you could opt for a reader-type series like Abeka, K12, or other.

I've only listed the programs I am most familiar with -- there are numerous ones you can choose from.

There are also some great "boxed" curriculums (Calvert, Covenant Home, Christian Liberty Academy, K12) which can be easier to implement as you begin your homeschool journey.
