pjssully
HI-- i am looking for geometry suggestions for my soon to be high schooler. She has worked on algebra for two years and hoping to finish soon. She struggled with this-i would never start a child as young as i did- anyways, i am fine teaching algebra but geometry is a different story!!! She doen'st like TT or Saxon andi have heard mixed reviews of the 3rd edition of jabob's. HOw is Bob Jones? any other suggestions would be great! trhanks pam
Susan C.
We LOVE BJU Geometry w/dvds. We started with Chalkdust traditional, but it was awful..... and I ordered BJU in October. Love, love, love. The best $400 I have ever spent. The dvds do all of the teaching, review, quizzes, going over homework, which problems to do, etc. All I have to do is print out quizzes and tests off of the dvd, and grade them. I also grade the homework to the teacher edition with dd, we like to go over that night instead of waiting for the next dvd in case it doesn't go over the problems she got wrong. The course is just the right speed, and the teacher does a good job of teaching every detail, nothing is left to figure out.
Lori D.
Math-U-See Geometry is extremely gentle; no proofs; each lesson has a video instruction component you can watch together. Since she is not quite high school age yet, this might be a great "intro" into geometry, and you could revisit geometry later with a more rigorous course. Younger DS (math struggler) is doing MUS Geometry now, and flying through it. I'm going to have him go through some of the Jacobs Geometry next year to cover concepts not in the MUS. We did Jacobs Geometry (2nd edition) with older DS. It worked very well for us; the first chapter or two on proofs was a little rough, but once we got the hang of it, it was not too hard. What I really love about Jacobs is that every lesson opens with a real life example of how that math concept gets used. It really makes the math concepts (either in Jacobs Algebra 1 or Geometry) make sense and help you see the reason for it. Also, I believe there are some DVD lessons put out by someone else (at least the Algebra 1; don't know about the Geometry) that match up well with Jacobs. Most of Jacobs Geometry (at least 2nd ed.) is about proofs, which are extremely logical. Algebra is a very logical abstract math area, so if you are confident with teaching Algebra, you may not have as much trouble with the Geometry as you think. Just a thought! Not familiar with BJUP math to comment. BEST of luck in finding what works best for your family! Warmly, Lori D.
