vitreous (jelly) in eye collapsed

Recommended Posts

when I hit my head and caused my concussion two weeks ago, I also caused the "jelly" in my eye to collapse. This is causing me to see a constant blinking light, like a headlight, in the left corner of my vision field in my right eye. I notice it mostly in dimly lit rooms and at night.

My question is this. Does anyone have experience with this? Does the jelly repair itself? I know this can cause my retina to detach and have been looking out for those symptoms. I've been surfing the web but can't determine if this is something that will heal. The eye dr will see me again in a month. He said that either the flashing light will leave my vision field or I will get used to it or learn to ignore it. :001_huh: I will ask in a month if my "jelly" will heal again and if not, what to expect. does anyone know anything about this? I had never heard of such a thing and can find little info about healing.

I would call an opthamologist - IMMEDIATELY-not an optometrist. Flashing lights in your vision can be a sign of retinas detatching. I would not wait a month. If necessary see another eye specialist. When you call, make certain that you let the person scheduling know that you had an injury tht is causing you to see the flashes of light in your vision.

Denise, as the mom of someone who has pretty severe eye issues, I agree with everyone else here who says get yourself to a retinal specialist. Call the university hospitals, call your closest big city, but get a referal. This can be dealt with, I think...

When my son has his lens implant surgery a few months ago, they had to fill his eye with a substitute vitreous jelly to keep the eye from collapsing. There is certainly more that can be done rather than you just waiting. The flashing lights are not good.

This happened to me and my doc told me it was the result of aging (45).

I did see the lights for a day, and then it stopped.

I did get to the doctor within hours of seeing lights because I was concerned about retinal detachment.

thanks, ladies.

Jean, your link angers me. I told the doctor that my eyes were having a hard time focusing. He's very good, but he completely ignored this. I've never read about this being related to what happened to me. I'm angry that he didn't tell me about this and I had to read about it online. thank you.

(please understand I'm thankful for your posting this but angry that I didn't know it was related to my condition until you did so.)

I told dh that my symptoms are getting worse, and I realize that I need to check into this further. Thank you, ladies. I knew I could count on you.

Guest Been there done that

Was at the opthomologist today for the same condition. It will heal by itself the doctor said...but no stressful physical activity for a few weeks. Nothing where the head might be jerked around. I have to go back in two weeks to see if it is healing. Very scary when it happened but I'm relieved there was no tear. The Vitreous detaches or collapses and tugs at the retina and that is what is causing the flashing lights. I had halos and flashes and floaters. But glad to know it will heal. Hope that helps you.
