post office question

If I ordered something and it was too late to cancel the order, is it ok, legal, acceptable, etc to just refuse the package and return it without opening it? A couple days ago I ordered water bottles...single walled...thinking I could buy insulated covers cheaply somewhere...haven't found any, and for the regular price of covers, I could have easily bought the double-walled bottles. SO, now I am trying to see if I can still cancel the order, but if I am unable to, I was just wondering what my cheapest options were to fixing my blunder. Thanks.

The selling company probably will have cashed your check, or run your credit card, anyway. Did you have a chance to call the company and enquire about the returns policy? Sometimes you have to obtain a "return authorization number" before a company will accept back non-desired merchandise.

Hope you find an easy solution !
