~blessedmom~
I am considering this for 9th grade next year (we have a 5th grader, too), and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the newer AiG versions. I'm looking for something that will help ignite their learning and up the ante with their retention.:D Thanks in advance!:001_smile:
laughing lioness
I don't know about her new stuff but we've worn out DW tapes. We don't agree with all of her facts, but that's o.k. We've learned TONS from her. And she is a terrific presenter. If you ever get the opportunity to hear her in person, take it!
~blessedmom~
Thank you so much for your response....she is pretty contagious, isn't she? :D I'm hoping to light a fire underneath these boys!!
laughing lioness
We love her and affectionatley call her tapes, The Canine History of the World becasue of all of the dog references she made (in the old tapes, they are probably re-done by now (i.e. he was "top dog," he was the "underdog" etc.etc). I heard her years ago at the NM conference and told her that and she threw her head back and laughed :001_smile:. She's also the gal I learned that you need to "teach" humor and joke delivery to your kids- as a result we have tons of joke books, Watterson's comics around here. Contagious, YES! water2wine
I have done her ancients program. Her stuff is good. It is set up a little different with the learning styles. I kind of ignored all that and used it how I wanted. It's fairly flexible. We used it actually in conjunction with reading a the OT. So my thought was more she was the support to the Bible we were studying which is a little different than it is meant to be used but it was great that way. The archeology is interesting. There is a lot of world view and I liked that. It is not an everything curriculum, meaning complete unit study but it is a very good history program. Her commentary is very engaging and very eye opening. The focus is more biblical than secular on the history or maybe more bringing the secular in light of the biblical. Anyway I hope that helps a bit. I love her stuff. I did not use it exactly as it is intended. :) She does have a yahoo group that is good. I am not on it anymore but do a search it will come up for you.
~blessedmom~
Thank you so much for your replies! I'm OK with doing something that's "not traditional," but I can't quite discern from the online samples if it covers what needs to be covered in each time period. I guess, I'm also concerned that her last volume, due out soon, is World History, American History and Modern History---all wrapped up in only one year!:001_huh: Could it possibly go over all we need to cover?
water2wine
I am not sure her philosophy is to cover all that needs to be covered as it is to cover things and link them to God and Worldview while you get them to think for themselves. I remember her saying on something that there really is not way to cover it all. So that is kind of not her thing. I would think that program would be really interesting. Her big thing is bringing the history to life and the worldview/God view thing more than covering it all.
