Heather in OK
The only one we (for me and my girls) subscribe to is Crochet Today!. I don't have a subscription to them but soon I'll be sending in for Clean Eating and Taste of Home. Both for the recipes. :)
creekland
We have family subscriptions to: World (News) Nutrition Action (Health) Reminisce (fun memories) Popular Science Sail Ocean Navigator Answers (Creation-science) I regularly read World and Nutrition Action. Hubby regularly reads World and the Sailing mags. Son #1 (17) regularly reads World and Nutrition Action Son #2 (15) regularly reads Popular Science, Reminisce, World, Nutrition Action, & Answers Son #3 (14) regularly reads Nutrition Action and Answers. We use Nutrition Action for our health class, but the boys like it anyway.
smrtmama
I get the Food Network magazine, because when I have a cooking magazine, I do NOT read it for the articles, ok? I recently ordered Click (for my 3.5 year old) and Odyssey (for my 9 year old) from the Cricket family of magazines. Ad free! Educational! What more could you want? My grandmother keeps renewing Discover Kids and National Geographic Kids for the boys, even though I've asked her to stop. Too many ads for junk they don't need and movies they aren't going to see. JudoMom
National Geographic (Both adult & kids versions), Ranger Rick, My Big Backyard, Family Circle, Better Homes & Gardens, Ladies' Home Journal, Woman's Day, and Real Simple. Why? Because my MIL can't pass up a good deal on a magazine, evidentially.
ladydusk
The kids get God's World News Early Edition. I get: Everyday Food (some of our favorite meals have been from this magazine.) Cook's Illustrated (I read it for the ideas and the how-to of playing with recipes. The lack of ads and general information make it worth its price) Organic Gardening ... got it free through Stonyfield Farms for a year, and renewed for this year. I need some sort of inspiration to keep on working on this whole gardening thing.
BikeBookBread
Me: Interweave Crochet - I love their very modern and current take on crochet. I'm not into doilies. Cook's Illustrated - I love they way they break down a recipe to get it just right. LLL: Ladybug ages 3 - 5 - Fun pre-reading: poetry, songs, games, stories. PDG: Click ages 4 - 6ish - They pick one subject and write about it from many angles. Good read-alouds, and she's able to read a bit of it herself now. Nice photography and illustration. MelanieM
We get Yes Mag (science), Know (science), Kayak (Canadian history), and Zoobooks (animal units). We love all of them! I used to get Mothering, Living Crafts (beautiful!), and National Geographic but my subscriptions have run out and I don't know that I'll renew them. I may start up a subscription to Discover Magazine again; it has been years since I've read it, but I quite enjoyed it back in the day. I was going to get Mothering, but between the AIDS denial and the crazy new "intuitives" forum where you can pay for psychics, I'm pretty much DONE w/ that batty magazine. Peggy O'Mara is just a fruitcake.
hmschooln
We get Smithsonian for all of us and so far like it. The kids like Family Fun, it usually has some something in it they want to try. National Geographic we let expire, we were not impressed at all, seemed like it was always the same thing and National Geographic for Kids was terrible. It was mostly just ads for junk and movies.:)
runamuk
I subscribe to: Bon Appetite - because I love to cook Better Homes and Gardens - enjoy the decorating and gardening articles Southern Living - gardening and recipes Interweave Knits - because I knit :) The kids get: American Girl (Elle) High Five (Mac) Odyssey Ask Calliope I let our subscription to National Geographic lapse, but I'm thinking of renewing it. I've also been buying Discover magazine, so I may subscribe to that.

Peggy O'Mara is just a fruitcake. Ah well, I have studied energy reading, offer distance Reiki and coaching sessions that involve a lot of intuitive work, and have given classes on how to develop intuition. I also have several friends that work as intuitives. So I guess I'm a fruitcake in that regard. lol! (My husband does indeed think I'm a tad crazy... but he loves me anyway! ;)) But I didn't know they have a new ask an intuitive forum at MDC. Interesting. I also have no clue on the AIDs denial thing. Huh?? (Will go poke around to try to figure that one out...)
dirty ethel rackham
National Geographic - lots of great articles at the cutting edge. The photography is gorgeous. Smithsonian - it was a gift and my kids and hubby love it. Air and Space - it was a gift and dh is a huge aerospace fan (would have been an aerospace engineer if there was job stability.) The Word Among Us - a Catholic monthly with lectionary readings, commentary and articles. Scientific American - we are a science loving family Science News - cutting edge science reporting We used to get Muse, Cricket, and Ranger Rick for the kids. Excellent magazines without ads. My boys outgrew them and we had enough of a stockpile for dd that we did not need to continue the subscription. Someone got us National Geographic Kids - I hated all the ads and visual clutter. Same with Discovery Kids. We get Boys' Life since my son is a scout, but again, I hate the ads. I am a big fan of commercial-free childhood. We used to get Popular Science, but there were WAY too many ED adds and "enhancement" ads.

Peggy O'Mara is just a fruitcake. I get Living Crafts, Hobby Farms Home, Mother Earth News, Organic Gardening, Maryjane's Farm and Mothering (yep...whackadoodle about some things). DH is a magazine junkie, and I can't even begin to guess how many he gets. I know we get a lot of Poultry and Bee Keeping Magazines, Back Woods home, etc. DS age 12 used to get Learning Through History....until they went out of business....so sad. He still gets The History Channel magazine, but it's not as good. My younger boys get Kids Discover and Nat'l Georgraphic kids (which we hate, too many ads) and they get Highlights and they fight over the "hidden pictures" page. I need to just buy the Hidden Pictures magazine and be done with it. My daughter likes National Geographic the regular magazine. I buy knitting magazines when I see them on the newstands. I used to get Home Ed. magazine but my subscription lapsed, I need to renew.

Jumping In Puddles
I get Cooking Light Magazine, it is my favorite source of new recipes. elise1mds
National Geographic for me; Ask and National Geographic Kids for DS; nothing for DD yet. Kim in Appalachia
We get Runner's World, Yoga Journal, and Table Talk My kids get Highlights and Sport's Illustrated Kids I would like to get the Christian Science Monitor and The Economist. I would like the kids to get National Geographic Kids, as well as something for kids that focused on classical music, piano or violin. We used to get a magazine focused on piano, but I can't remember what it's called.
MelanieM
Oh, I believe in intuitives. I just don't believe in charging $3 a pop for quackery psychic predictions as a "fundraising" effort to support the magazine. Ah yes, I hear you! Though I have to say I just went over there and read a couple of the answers, and I get a pretty good vibe from the woman who is doing this. (There was a health related question that I think was answered beautifully!) So, maybe it will turn out to be a good thing for the Mothering community, and for this woman's private practice! Now if they could only get rid of the pop-up ads... <shudder>
gardening momma
I have life memberships to Gardening How-To and Today's Creative HomeArts. I had a subscription to Family Fun for $3.79 for a year, but I think that one has ended. I get Woman's Day--that was probably equally cheap or free. I somehow got a free subscription to Field & Stream, but I don't hunt and fish. I don't know how in the world I got that. Dh gets Handyman magazine and Handy (Handyman Club of America--life membership).
Slartibartfast
Oh, I believe in intuitives. I just don't believe in charging $3 a pop for quackery psychic predictions as a "fundraising" effort to support the magazine. Did you read the guidelines? It says the money goes to the community, mods and the intuitive. Have you ever seen the TTC forums? There was all sorts of psychics spamming. It seems they are just promoting their member rather than random people. I didn't like people spamming in there , it seemed so predatory and gross. :( It also says they will do other fundraisers for other spiritual paths. It would be nice to see something for Christians that would benefit a Christian organization but I cannot think of anything. I don't believe in psychics so I was a little put off at first but it seems harmless. Edited February 17, 2010 by Sis
E_Edgerton
We get The Week, because the news is depressing and constantly looping stories. We also get Dwell, because I love modern, green architecture. I just recently started Foodnetwork Magazine, obviously for recipe ideas...I enjoy it so far. We also will start getting a new one (to me anyway) called ReadyMade, I got this one on a whim. I am hoping it will be as interesting as I hope. KristineinKS
I get: Living Crafts, Martha Stewart Living, National Geographic & The New Yorker However, seldom do I have time to read any of them - so they all go in an enormous stack! The kids get: Muse, Cricket & Calliope
funschooler5
DD 12 gets Odyssey (used to get National Geographic for kids, but got tired of all of the ads and "info-tainment" articles) DS 9 gets Appleseeds (outgrew Ranger Rick, but loved it) DH gets Popular Science (DD tends to snag this and read it, and so does DS) and Game Informer. In the past I've gotten Home Education Magazine, The Writer, and Ladies Home Journal. I find that they start to pile up if I get more than one subscription. I don't have any right now, since I have a stack of library books that I'm still trying to get through! I'm about half-way through three different books.
smrtmama
DD 12 gets Odyssey (used to get National Geographic for kids, but got tired of all of the ads and "info-tainment" articles) Info-tainment! That's it exactly. The whole magazine is so graphics-based, very flashy, with little text and not much substance. I do think the National Geographic Little Kids magazine is cute, though.
