Dmmetler
In my state, I can either register with the school system (in which case I have to submit records to them and do testing through them) or with a Church-related school, in which I have to meet what the school sets up (which tends to be "submit grades and attendance"). I'm not particularly scared of testing, both because my DD wouldn't be subject to it for several years and because her current school says she's well above grade level, so I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to spend the $50/yr to register with the CRS vs the public school or not? Since she'll be in 1st grade, the curriculum requirements are pretty minimal either way.
Lolly
I registered with the county until my first dc reached 5th grade where they have to test in the ps. Then, I switched to a CRS. If I had it to do over again, I would probably just go ahead and start with the CRS to begin with. It is just a whole lot easier to deal with. (It wasn't terribly difficult to turn in the required forms to ps, but it is still 10X easier to just put up my $ and do it all from my computer.) Also, if you go with registering with the school system, make sure you check the testing conditions for homeschoolers in your area. Here, they are less than desirable. I've known them to lump the homeschooled kids into a crowded room and do all testing over 2 full days instead of the week they use in ps.
