Spelling Workout - what level do we start with?

We're going to try Spelling Workout next year. I'm thinking about starting my daughter, who will be in 3rd grade and is an average speller, on Level B. Does this sound right? My son is a advanced speller, will be in 5th grade next year, and is currently in Level F of Spelling Power. Should I start him in Level E?

Is there a placement test?

My 7 yr old daughter just started SWO C, and she's finding it very easy. When I looked at samples for level B I figured she'd already know all of those words and might find it too boring. As it is, I think she'll be moving into D before very long. I would say she's a pretty average speller, but she seems to pick up new words with very little effort.

If you look on Christianbook.com you can see the first lesson of each level. Check the word lists and see which level seems the better fit. If C seems too challenging, start with B and maybe move through the first lessons quickly until you find a lesson that meets your needs.

All of these comments about SWO B is making me nervous. I bought it for my upcoming 2nd grader for next year. I have gotten in my D and E for my older girls but B was backordered. I like the looks of D and E a lot. I bought D for my 4th grader and E for my 5th grader.

My dd will be an upcoming 5th grader using it at grade level. They're out there! My 6 yo is just a freakishly good speller. I just wouldn't use it a year behind unless you're either planning to accelerate through it, or your child is a below grade level speller.

I just don't see how to view the first lesson. Thanks!

Sorry, no, not Amazon. (Fingers typing differnetly than my brain was thinking!) You can see a look inside at Christianbook.com: http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/easy_find/1041142768?within=1016AAR&Ntk=keywords&Ntt=spelling+workout&action=Search&N=0&Ne=0&event=ESRCN&nav_search=1&cms=1

THANK YOU!! We are ready for C.

(You know, I'm completely monogamous with my math program, but such a tart when it comes to spelling!)
