Crystal in VA
I remember some talk on here about caramel in the can using condensed milk. I've tried to do a search for the original thread and can't find it. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Does it make a creamy-sauce-kind-of caramel? My DH is looking for a homemade caramel sauce to put over ice cream. It's becoming an obsession this weekend. So any really good caramel recipe would be appreciated. I figured that someone here would be able to help. Ya'll are always a wealth of information. :D
Liz CA
I remember some talk on here about caramel in the can using condensed milk. I've tried to do a search for the original thread and can't find it. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Does it make a creamy-sauce-kind-of caramel? I have never tried this but here is a recipe: 1/2 cup butter 2 cups packed brown sugar 1 cup light corn syrup 1 14oz can of condensed milk 1 teaspoon vanilla Melt butter and mix in syrup. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Mix in condensed milk. Cook until F245 for 12-15 minutes while stirring constantly. Remove from heat, add vanilla. I suppose anywhere in the process you can see if the caramel has reached a state of consistency you like.
Suzanne in ABQ
I think you're talking about Dulce la Leche. It uses sweetened condensed milk, sealed in the can, submerged in boiling water. I remember a thread about it here, but haven't tried it myself. Try searching on this title, or google it. I'll look later, if you don't find it, but I don't have time right now.
