caribbean resort..island...any family favorites?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I just returned from our first(and last)cruise. It was not our cup of tea. We left out of New Orleans and went to Cozumel. We have always wanted to take our boys-ages 13 and 14 to Atlantis but know that it is probably way out of our budget. So, we thought that we would try to find a great resort that offered an all-inclusive offer and just fly somewhere.

Do any of you have any places that you have loved? What advice do you have for someone on how to find a good place at a reasonable price?

I am not familiar at all with anything beach wise other than the panhandle of Florida(specifically Pensacola and Perdido Key areas) so I would even consider farther south in Florida. I have heard Sanibel is great.

any suggestions or dream places you guys want to go?!?!?

We have 3 girls and they were 16, 14 and 4 (almost 5) at the time.

We all loved Kauai--we stayed there 6 days. It is a beautiful, tropical island. We love nature and there was so much to do there...our favorite was a full day outing--a 'zip-line adventure' where we kayaked, hiked, swung from rope swings into the water, jumped off waterfalls (dd 14 was the only one brave enough to do this--it was the waterfall featured in the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark!) and of course did the zip line! It also included a tour of the ranch in the center of the island. FUN FUN FUN! On other days we went hiking, took a boat trip around the island (another fun day with dolphins) and spent a day at a white-sand beach... the canyon there is BEAUTIFUL--great hiking too!

We stayed in a great 'condo' resort--Poipu Kai

We also stayed for 4 days on Maui--and did LOTS of activities there--but it was BUSY.

It was a GREAT family vacation.

The next vacation we took was to Ohio... we do not know ANYONE (personally) in Ohio... but we LOVE rollercoasters! We spent 6 days there... 2 full days at Kings Island and 2 full days at Cedar Point (our favorite). When in Cedar Point we stayed at one of the 'indoor waterpark' hotels and had a blast.
