Saxon test results???

Recommended Posts

Hi, sneaking over here from the K-8 board ( shhh, don't tell) to ask folks who are farther along the math road for some advise. I have a 2nd grader who really likes worksheets. ( oldest child hated Saxon) this one I think may like it. I don't really care for it because I don't see alot of WHY we do things, mostly I see algarythms ( spelling?) Please correct me if this is a misunderstanding of the program.

I'm wanting to know how long-term Saxon users test in standardized tests in upper grades. Did you suppliment?

Thanks so much for hoolerring back down teh road some directions.

I once had a freind who was sort of an unofficial Saxon rep. She went to many Christian school teacher conventions and manned the Saxon booth all day, and a few times I went with her. In every case, there was a steady stream of teachers coming through all day long, raving about how well their students were doing, how many more of them were going on to advanced maths than before, how high their standardized test scores were, how many of them reported back that they were math smarties in college.

I have no qualms about recommending Saxon math through high school.:)

We've used Saxon from the beginnning, just finished Algebra 1 (I did supplement some with Life of Fred Algebra, but that's the first time I've added in any other math). The girls always score just fine on their standardized tests, and compared to the math I took in school I think it actually explains things very well. We plan on continuing with Saxon, and adding in Life of Fred for some extra explanations/different approach.HTH. -Jen
