LibraryLover
For the technicalities of writing, this is a classic, and very accessible for someone your son's age as long as his reading skills are good. You can dive right in, I think. It covers all the basics. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=elements+of+the+style&tag=googhydr-20&index=stripbooks&hvadid=3759555325&ref=pd_sl_3po7btmoka_b If you are looking for more literary study-- how to read literature and mine it for meaning, fi- you'll need something else as well. I can check my bookmarks, or maybe someone else will chime in. Edited January 11, 2010 by LibraryLover
Michelle in AL
Windows to the World does this through short stories. A great start to literary analysis. After it's completed, the elements can of course be applied to any piece of lit. It can be found at the IEW web site.

forty-two
I have this book in my Amazon cart - Rhetorical Devices: A Handbook and Activities for Student Writers. The samples look very promising, and it seems to address what you are looking for.
