Xpost to curriculum: Need help with LAPBOOKING!

Recommended Posts

It's bedtime in my part of the world . . . but when most of you are still sleeping, my three are going to be begging to "get going with this lapbooking thing," of which I am still unclear!

Ok, here's the deal. I really want to make lapbooks with my kids about the senses. I have looked at loads of samples, printed out diagrams of ears and eyes, we've read Ms. Frizz and the senses, I have a multitude of other books on the senses, and I am also waiting to get started. But HOW do I do this?

Do I start by saying, "ok, we are going to review the eye now. What are some vocabulary words for the eye? Let's write them on these little cards and then write the definitions. Ok, now we are going to color in and label the parts of the eye. Ok . . . "

Do they decided what they are going to do? (they are 9, 9 and 7 and I think they still need a whole lot of guidance!)

Do we do all the bits and pieces first and set them aside? And then we tape them into the file folder book?

Bottom line is how do I make the leap from knowing loads of info to putting it in book form! Can someone surprise me by my morning? Thanks!!!

PS. Yes, I just joined the yahoo group but couldn't find anything there.

Jeri,

I've only done a few but it's really all up to you. You can do it however you want. I would say with the ages of your kids, yes guide them in what you're going to cover. Such as

Day1 Sight

Day 2 Hearing

Day 3 Smell

Day 4 Taste

Day 5 Touch

Or if you want more than 1 day. Then read about that topic and then do some (or all if there are not too many) of your lapbook items for that topic.

I placed ours as we went because I know we would have lost them otherwise. I also let my kids pick where they put them in their own lapbook so they ended up not looking exactly the same, which was fine by me.

HTH a little. Good luck on your lapbooking adventure.
