Social skills lecture moves to Web

 

 

 

 

Parents, teachers and caregivers can learn how to help children manage their emotions and impulses and interact with peers through an online video lecture this spring.

 

 

 

 

The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa has temporarily moved its popular “Seed Sower†lecture series to the Web — at

http://tulsa.ou.edu/seedsower/index.htm— due to campus construction. The live, in-person format will return this summer, according to OU-Tulsa.

 

 

 

 

This spring’s lecture is on “Kids Connecting With Kids: Teaching Children Social Skills†by OU-Tulsa professor Tonia Caselman, who specializes in children and adolescents in her private practice as a social worker.

 

 

 

 

The first part of her lecture describes how parents and teachers can help children develop skills such as being self-aware, managing their moods and accepting others. The second part teaches skills such as how children can join in, be good conversationalists and make others feel special, according to OU-Tulsa.

 

 

 

 

Handouts, a work sheet, slide-show presentations and a question-and-answer page are available on the Web site, along with information about continuing education credit. The lecture will be online through May.
