Nan in Mass
With some friends. They'll be home for a whole week. We lined up some yard work for them to do, and the oldest has a short plumbing job. The middle one has arranged to go visit his gym coach. The youngest is excited to see his brothers. The only bad part is that I nearly lost all three of my children at once when they were returning from a concert late last night and the car in front of them on the highway hit a deer. Anybody else have children home? Hugs to all of you who have children too far away to come home. -Nan
Kareni
I'm so glad to hear that your sons are safely home after the near miss of last night. That is scary. No Thanksgiving trip home for my freshman though she will get to go to other family for the holiday. We're looking forward to having her home for the winter holidays. As for us, we've found some other friends whose son has just set off on a two year mission to join us for Thanksgiving dinner. It should be fun to have some new faces at the table. Blue Hen
Oh my Nan, that is scary. Our excitment this week was having DH who was away on a business trip 6 hrs away, call on Friday to say that he was really sick. He never ever gets sick. We drove out and brought him home. He's fine now. Glad your kids are home too. Carole
Karen in CO
Oh that is scary. My ds can't come home for Thanksgiving. He even has class on Thanksgiving- apparently pilgrims weren't very big in Japan. However, today is "respect for Workers" day or something like that so he and his American friends are making their own first-Thanksgiving away from home. They even found a place to buy a whole turkey and will be cooking their first turkey. He'll be back home for a month in early December. Its good that some are getting a break and getting to see their kids. Enjoy them and give them an extra slice of pie.
K-FL
My ds can't come home for Thanksgiving. He even has class on Thanksgiving- apparently pilgrims weren't very big in Japan. That reminded me of someone I knew who worked in Indonesia for a while. They had to remember to ask for Christmas Day off, since it wasn't a holiday there. Chris in VA
lol--pilgrims in Japan My ds20 will come home Tuesday until Sun or Mon. He doesn't really want to come home, but that is largely because he's still depressed. Prayers would be nice. Happy TG to all!

Gwen in VA
My two arrived home for the holiday late Friday night! :001_smile: And right now they are off studying at the W&M library -- they both have major papers due right after they return to campus. So we will see less of them than we'd like, but it is great having them around again. Hugs to all of you whose kids aren't coming home for the break. Kathy in Richmond
Sending thoughts for a great visit to everyone whose kids are coming home this week, and special blessing to all the moms whose children can't make it home at this time:001_smile:. Our son is coming home from MIT on Wed night as usual. The special treat this year is that both of his grandmothers are traveling here for the holiday. My mother-in-law is due to arrive any second now from New Orleans, and my mom is flying in tomorrow from PA. They haven't been able to see him much since he started college. We haven't had him home ourselves since last May, so we're excited, too! It's been one of those years where everything is in transition (my husband is facing unemployment with no new job in sight, both kids are seniors looking at a new life next year, and my homeschooling days are numbered) so it will be especially nice to have all of our families together for a few days. My son said last night that he'll have to bring homework with him, but my daughter is drowning in those last few college application essays, so they will have company in their misery. Now back to the kitchen to finish dinner! ~Kathy
Nan in Mass
I was worried that the youngest and I would have trouble getting school done with his brothers home. I needn't have worried. The middle one went to work with my husband today to study calc, do a fundies take home test, and read humanities, and probably will go tomorrow also. My older one and his Ukranian friend are doing yard jobs for money. All is quiet. This didn't occur to me, somehow LOL. Does anyone know anything about Ukranian Christmases? I'm not even sure I'm spelling Ukranian right. -Nan
Brenda in MA
Mine arrived home last night. Within minutes of walking in the door, he was fiddling with his dad's new computer... It's been nice today to hear him and his brother laughing and just basically enjoying one another's company. He says that it feels "weird" to be home, though, after being away so long. He goes back on Sunday, so we'll enjoy his company while we can. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Brenda
