Kendall
Biology (Apologia) just isn't going very well with my 10th grader. I would like another text to be able to refer to when he has questions that this one doesn't answer. If it came with a change of attitude CD that would be great:). I'm just about the meanest mom there is for requiring Biology. Can any of you relate? Thanks
Susan C.
I think it is a cruel joke to make hormonal teens do biology (and geometry)!!! We love Apologia....and recommended it to another family. They hated it.... said it was too hard... They ended up using PACES (Accelerated Christian Education, schooloftomorrow.com). Some people do not like the wordiness of Apologia (we love it, we can read while the concepts hit us...). It you are staying with Apologia, have your 10th grader email Dr. Wile with questions, he answers quickly. We have even called Dr. Wile and talked with him for help. homeschoolally
We are using Thinkwell biology along with Apologia and finding it works for us. Theres a great discount on it at homeschoolbuyerscoop.com if you look into it.
JennW in SoCal
I have a long list of biology bookmarks I found just by googling a particular topic, and Biology Corner is one that I have turned to most often for worksheets and ideas. AP Web labs is another good site as is Hippo Campus Don't forget the Biology Coloring Books! Those are a fun way to cement those terms and concepts. EKS
Thinkwell is a good supplement. A book that has clear presentations of the material is Starr's Biology: The Unity and Diversity of Life. In addition to the book, there is a website with narrated animations and videos. This is an introductory college level text, but it is very accessible.
