Sunshine State Sue
I bought PPG and am planning on using it as a supplement to our Algebra program next semester. If you've used this and have any advice for me, I'd love to hear it. Here are a few questions: Did you set up a notebook as they suggest with 4 sections: investigations, vocabulary, conjectures, and homework? I was thinking of using this on Fridays. Would it be better to spend several days together and complete a set? Did you complete the entire book? If not, did you do some investigations from each set? Is completing all the investigations in each set overkill? Thanks.
Sue in MN
We did set up a notebook as suggested. I scheduled it for two days/week (Mondays and Fridays from Aug-April), and I think we did most of the investigations--I don't have the book in front of me just my old schedule so I can't be sure. It looks like I scheduled from 1-2 investigations/day. I think you could easily complete 3-4 investigations in one day depending on the complexity. We used this as a supplement, so they also had other math to complete on those days. Are there two types of investigations--directed and undirected? It seems like we did just the directed investigations, and if I was using it for a high school student I would have made sure that at least one from every set was one of the undirected investigations. My kids really enjoyed this book, and I think it prepared them well for geometry again in high school. Hope this helps a little.
Sunshine State Sue
Thank you, Sue. Yes, they have "guided" and "open" investigations. Your post just gave me the idea to do the guided investigations this year and the open investigations along with Geometry next year.
Sue in MN
Can I have a redo? My kids finished geometry last year. Sue
