SusanAR
about an archer in King Henry V's army? Wondering if it might be a fun read before Shakespeare'?? oops, the author is Bernard Cornwell Edited November 16, 2009 by SusanAR add author
Jane in NC
oops, the author is Bernard Cornwell That was my question: Were you referring to Cornwell's novel? You might like it but I don't know if I would hand the book off to a young high school student. Cornwell's novels have some racy (and vulgar) moments as well as violent scenes that may not be appropriate for all teens. I am a fan of his Sharpe series of novels (set during the Napoleonic wars), but I found that I was bored with this newer series. I think that Cornwell has found a formula and it has weakened his output. My son has read historical accounts of Agincourt that are far more accurate than the novel. unsinkable
It has some gang r@pe/assault scenes that still haunt me. The scene was after a seige of a city, once the attackers got into the city gates. IMO, it is not for a young teenager. Maybe a 17 y.o.? MIch elle
It has some gang r@pe/assault scenes that still haunt me. I was reading some of his other books but got put off by the violence after awhile (the kind you describe).
SusanAR
Ouch, thanks. Ds, 16, enjoyed the Arthur trilogy and the Saxon Chronicles. Me thinks we will skip this one- don't need rape scenes lingering in our minds!
