Like the ones in July that say, "Just wanted to mention" in the subject line and then "It's 145 days until Christmas" in the text, so that I feel sort of manipulated into opening a post that is really just an effort to nag me to get off my butt and start planning a holiday that is six months away.

The one that tells the "true" meaning to all the symbolic stuff of the various seasons.

:iagree: Just because I carve a silly face on a pumpkin doesn't mean that my pumpkin is scaring away demons, even though hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago a few people thought it did. Sheesh.

Santa is evil, detracts from Jesus, is lying to your kids threads.

"How can an impoverished family who is holding their Starbucks with manicured nails ask for a LAPTOP on their angel tree request?"

Greeting threads (i.e. is "Merry Christmas" is is appropriate)

Some of us have chosen to incorporate Santa into our Christmas celebrations. Others have made a different choice. Neither is right and neither wrong. What IS wrong is when one individual looks down on those who don't live by HER (or his) personal convictions. Santa is one of those things that we have to decide about for ourselves -- follow our own individual convictions.

Anything with a negative tone regarding Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. It's not the Season to whine but the Season of Joy to enjoy friends and family and bless others.

I enjoy reading posts with a Cheerful Tone during the Holidays.

Nothing that stirs up unpleasantness or complaining.

Cool..... I didn't know that it scares away demons. Maybe I should try this...next year :tongue_smilie:

The fact that we seem to forget about Thanksgiving. When I was a kid, Thanksgiving was such a big deal. Now the stores (and people) go from Halloween to Christmas. I miss all the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving decorations. I miss the funny looking Turkey cut outs. I miss the Norman Rockwell "Freedom from Want" paintings. Sigh.

:iagree: I love Thanksgiving. We were at Wal-Mart this morning and the Halloween is all gone, Christmas stuff is already up and there is a tiny little half of an aisle over by plumbing and electronics with a few things that could be called Thanksgiving-ish.

The commercialism threads. You might think Christmas is over-commercialised, and I can completely agree that the shops ought to save it all until December 1st, but there is nothing inherently bad about buying gifts for one another. Refusing to buy much for anyone isn't going to teach them to be gracious. Buying people good presents needn't detract from whatever you think the real meaning of Christmas is, it can accentuate it. Training your kids to give good gifts is what makes them grow up with a giving spirit. "X is going to love this thing I worked so hard to make/ worked so hard to save for" is nice, not bad.

Ok, now I've just inspired someone to post a rant about people who don't believe in frugality, hehehe. I do, for the rest of the year. :)

Hey, and this is not a rant, but vaguely on topic so I might as well say it. I was so shocked about all the people who eat take away or lasagne for Christmas dinner! To me, that's so strange! Most of the year is so mundane, it seems very odd to mark Occasions with the same food you eat the rest of the year, or even less elaborate than usual! Occasions are supposed to be a break from the mundane, so making them more mundane doesn't seem to be much of a break. But I guess I haven't just gone through the big Thanksgiving thing, I can understand how a mother might want a break from working so hard (!!) and of course I'm food obsessed so everything is about food with me... Anyhow, enjoy your chinese take away and I hope it is much nicer than the almost not-food rubbish they serve in our local restaurants. Cheers!!

Okeydokey...

I guess the ones where we skip right over Thanksgiving and people (okay, not here but I have seen it) ask about Christmas trees before Halloween is even over. :001_huh: I can see an early start to shopping for presents, but the tree? C'mon!

I just asked about the Christmas dinner menu, but it was mainly because I wanted to know all the cool things other people did and get ideas since ours was a repeat of Thanksgiving Dinner:leaving:...

I can agree with this. We have a pretty low budget and don't buy things year round for our kids, so for us we don't feel like we are buying into the "commercialization of Christmas".

We don't buy for extended family, and we are glad. I don't need any more stuff and they don't either. We give family pics away at Christmas, and to be honest that's all I want from extended family.

You can select more than one if you like. With the round of annual holiday threads upon us, what about them bugs you most? What's your pet peeve in this regard?

EXCUSE ME? :001_huh: I thought you swore off Christmas threads????? I logged in just to put a big fat BTDT on this thread, and someone has beat me to it!

If I had known you would turn on me, I wouldn't have assisted with tagging the Halloween threads! :D

(Note: I did not tag Joannqn's Halloween thread. She's my friend )

I didn't swear off them, I just can't possibly keep up with them by myself. :D Christmas gets way more threads (and way better fighting) than almost any other holiday around here.

In general, I'm not opposed to any holiday threads. I'm just opposed to the re-posting and re-hashing of the SAME topics we've already covered ad nauseum.Search button anyone?? You know... been there, done that bought the t-shirt and the mug! :tongue_smilie:

Search buttom smearch button. I want NEW drama, threads and chaos. And to see if my brilliant commentary and opinion changed anyone's opinion from one year to the next. I'm a Joanne's way evangelist and I have to check my numbers to keep my title.
