langfam
Sigh and double sigh. DS is using TT Geometry and bombed the last 2 tests Chapter 3 and 4. TT Geometry worked really well for my daughter, but this ds has always struggled with math. He says he finds it very difficult to listen to the lectures and often realizes mid-lesson that he had drifted off. He says he would prefer if I taught him. If I'm going to sit with him everyday to do geometry then I'd want to use Jacob's geometry. Can you give me any suggestions for assigning problems? TIA. Jann in TX
If you are teaching then the problems you assign will be dependent on your lesson. The problem numbers the other poster gave went along with the lecture that Jacobs gave his students. He worked certain problems out with his students (not listed on the assignment sheet). So be cautious with assignment sheets like this. A student who is working this program independently will need to do MORE problems than just the ones on that list--if they want to pass/understand the course. I'm teaching from Jacobs 3e this year. For my students Set I problems are optional because I cover that material in my lectures. I assign ALL of the Set II problems and occasionally Set III. I've also supplemented with additional worksheets that I have created. Unlike many programs you can't get away with working just the ODDS--- Jacob's problems come in 'chunks'... you need to work #22 if you want to work #23... langfam
Jann, Could I work through Set I with him, then assign Set II? Is Set III harder and used for honors students? Thanks.
Jann in TX
In my classes I will either work through Set 1 problems with the class or work out similar problems. Set III is more of a challenge problem--no concept that will be tested (think brain teasers). Some Set III I assign to 'try' and others I ignore. langfam
We've done 3 lessons so far. We enjoyed making the pyramid today. Is it going to continue to be this fun? I finally realize that the student learns by doing the problems. I've had this textbook on my shelf all these years and never got it till now. :tongue_smilie:
