Looking for a "homeschooling high school" book that is more advanced...

Recommended Posts

I have read several that talk about how to create transcripts and such, and I am pretty much set on how to do the record-keeping and testing aspects. I am looking for something more in-depth that talks about dual enrollment, CLEP, AP, online classes, etc.; not just defines what they are but tells how to make choices about them. Is there a book like that?

I can't think of a particular title that addresses your questions. I'd recommend you post specific questions here. I'd also suggest, if you haven't already done so, that you join the Yahoo group hs2coll · Homeschooling toward college. There is a lot of wisdom (and a variety of opinions) to be found in these two places. Bear in mind too that the best decision for one child or family might not be the best choice for your child.

If you google the name "Lee Binz" you will find a wealth of materials. She has a huge "free" portion on her web site and also offers audio/video/ebook courses on transcripts, scholarships, choosing college, high school testing, etc. She gets very specific and her materials can save you a lot of money, even before graduation. Also take advantage of her "office hours" to ask her a question by phone. She has a newsletter as well.

Elisabeth Wissner-Gross has two books--What High Schools Don't Tell You and What Colleges...-- and they give a lot of information and opinions about preparing the best possible transcript and portfolio. They're not specifically directed at homeschoolers, and no one could possibly do everything she suggests. However, it may be the detail you're looking for. She's very focused on top colleges admission, but the books did prompt me into some hard thinking.
