Anyone taken a Greg Landry class?

Recommended Posts

One of my friend's had her daughter take one of his live classes at ASU and she seemed pleased. My dd14 is going to take some of his classes soon.

Kinda second hand, but we are looking forward to utilizing him as a resource. :001_smile:

Georgia (we swim against his kids too, they are a very nice family!)

I'd like to know, too! Dd is signed up for one of his anatomy camps for next summer.

If you want to "meet" him, a great way to do it is through his free seminars. Dh (reg) and I just participated in one last night. It was about choosing a college. We're on his email list, so we get notified.

If do participate in his webinars, get into the program as early as possible (1/2 hour before it begins). The one he did last night was full (50 participants) a few minutes before start time, so there were probably folks that didn't get in.

Here are some pluses and minuses that we've noticed from his webinars.

Pluses:

- He is friendly and down-to-earth, and uses appropriate language. He seems comfortable with teaching. I would feel comfortable having my child take a class with him.

- He stays on topic - very necessary for teaching young people.

- His delivery format is good. The chat and hand-raising features work well.

- He is very good about answering questions, and willingly says he doesn't know if he doesn't have expertise in that area. I'm sure he will be very knowlegeable about science. He just didn't know about some of the nitpicky college app.-type questions.

Minuses:

- The delivery doesn't show him teaching. It's a little strange for me to just listen to his voice when I'm used to seeing speakers at homeschool conventions, Chalkdust and IEW DVDs, etc.

- His Powerpoint slides aren't the greatest. He needs more visuals, and they could definitely be of better quality. Dh was especially bugged by this, because that's one of the things that is important for his job. Perhaps they are better for his classes, but I wouldn't count on it.

- He says "um" a lot.

Blessings,
