Can a highschooler enroll in a community college full time?

Recommended Posts

My daughter is currently taking 2 classes per semester and has expressed an interest in going full time. At the community college she attends it only allows high school students to take 2 classes per semester. She is doing so well and wants to do more. Is there anyway around this while still in high school?

thx,

Whitney

In NC, they have to take at least 1/2 their classes at home. (My understanding) So no, she couldn't take a full load. If the school says high schooler can only take 2 classes, I'd think the answer is no.

One option would be to graduate her early and let her be in college instead of high school.

There are several out there. They are like CC courses, you count them as high school but they also earn college credits and get a transcript etc. UNC Greensboro has a program like that that they just started. It's not as cheap as the communnity colleges but it is an option.

It depends. Some colleges do allow students to go full time. Others don't. Our local CC allows 2 classes the first semester and then strong students may add a 3rd and 4th class after that. They may continue to do so as long as they do well.

Another consideration is to graduate kiddo so they can just do college full time (or even more).
