If your heart broke for the British woman and the premature baby ...

Recommended Posts

you have to watch this. This video is heart-wrenching as one couple lets the world into their world as they discover the child that they are carrying has trisomy 13 or 18 (I can't remember which). As I watched this today, I thought of the sharp contrast between the freedom and care they were given (and allowed to give) once they decided to have this baby and the British woman who gave birth prematurely.

I wanted to edit this in light of some of the comments below. It could be highly disturbing to some, so, if you choose to watch it, do so knowing that it is a difficult video to watch. I would imagine it could be particularly painful if you have lost a child. My reason for posting was not political, but because I saw beauty and courage in the couple's desire to love their child to the end. So, if I offended you in posting this video, I truly am sorry. It was not my intent.

Didn't consider how disturbing this could be for some women.

That video link is wildy inappropriate and should come with a huge *PSYCHOLOGICAL TRIGGER* warning so that any mother who has lost a baby in any way does not inadvertently submit herself to a traumatic flashback.

I agree. How upsetting, especially to those among us who have experienced a similar loss. The lengths some people here will go to make their political point.

Wow, I'm pro-choice and never even thought about this being a political statement. I saw it as a heartbreaking and beautiful story that the parents wanted to share about the short life of their beautiful child.

I have had my own losses, and it did bring back gut-wrenching memories but I still found it very touching. I'm sorry for those who were hurt by it. :grouphug:

Perhaps a warning should be put in the subject line.

I thought it was beautiful. I cried but not because I found it disturbing. What beautiful love that couple had. And what a beautiful baby they had however briefly. It doesn't appear that their baby knew anything but love. I hope there next baby gives them joy well into their old age.

I found the Britain woman story FAR more disturbing.

Perhaps my interpretation was off-base. Because the OP drew a parallel between the dead British baby/withholding care/universal health care thread below, and even referred to it in the title of the thread, IMHO, I took it as, in part, a political statement. Apologies to the OP if I drew the wrong conclusion.

Here was the text of the OP:

I have never experienced a loss - I can't even imagine. That was the most heartwrenching and truly beautiful act of love I have ever seen. I would never have the strength to do what those two parents did. Never. In that child's short life, he experienced nothing but unconditional love. How many of us can say that? I am still crying. How sad.

Ah, I see where you're coming from now. I haven't read the other thread so I didn't catch that connection. I can see why it upset you now.

:iagree: What loving parents to show their son as much love as they could during the time they had with him. The docs/nurses/hospice workers really made the best of a terrible situation and showed the parents love and compassion even though they KNEW the child would not survive. That was not the case of the other baby. No one knew that the baby would not survive and yet medical staff chose to do nothing to help.
