Cindy in C-ville
you have to watch this. This video is heart-wrenching as one couple lets the world into their world as they discover the child that they are carrying has trisomy 13 or 18 (I can't remember which). As I watched this today, I thought of the sharp contrast between the freedom and care they were given (and allowed to give) once they decided to have this baby and the British woman who gave birth prematurely. http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/photography/2009/thomas2/ I wanted to edit this in light of some of the comments below. It could be highly disturbing to some, so, if you choose to watch it, do so knowing that it is a difficult video to watch. I would imagine it could be particularly painful if you have lost a child. My reason for posting was not political, but because I saw beauty and courage in the couple's desire to love their child to the end. So, if I offended you in posting this video, I truly am sorry. It was not my intent. Edited September 13, 2009 by Cindy in C-ville Didn't consider how disturbing this could be for some women.

astrid
I agree. How upsetting, especially to those among us who have experienced a similar loss. The lengths some people here will go to make their political point. astrid
Emmy
I wasn't able to finish watching it - way too emotional for me right now. It appeared the parents were trying very hard to have their sweet baby experience as much love and care as possible.
babysparkler
I found it heartbreaking and inspiring. What faith and what courage. :iagree: I have been following their story here in Dallas and I am touched and inspired by the love and dedication they had for their son Thomas. What beautiful people... LauraGB
I'm sorry...I couldn't finish watching the video. I'm entirely too weak and my tears were too hard to see through. Would someone be so kind as to let me know if he survived? That is all.
Cindy in C-ville
Laura, the baby does not survive. He dies while his parents are sleeping beside him. Although this would in no way remove the pain of the loss of this baby, she is pregnant with a little girl and due in January, I believe. I saw it as a heartbreaking and beautiful story that the parents wanted to share about the short life of their beautiful child. I have had my own losses, and it did bring back gut-wrenching memories but I still found it very touching. I'm sorry for those who were hurt by it. :grouphug: Perhaps a warning should be put in the subject line.
Murphy101
I thought it was beautiful. I cried but not because I found it disturbing. What beautiful love that couple had. And what a beautiful baby they had however briefly. It doesn't appear that their baby knew anything but love. I hope there next baby gives them joy well into their old age. I found the Britain woman story FAR more disturbing.
astrid
Perhaps my interpretation was off-base. Because the OP drew a parallel between the dead British baby/withholding care/universal health care thread below, and even referred to it in the title of the thread, IMHO, I took it as, in part, a political statement. Apologies to the OP if I drew the wrong conclusion. Here was the text of the OP: "As I watched this today, I thought of the sharp contrast between the freedom and care they were given (and allowed to give) once they decided to have this baby and the British woman who gave birth prematurely." astrid
babysparkler
The five days they spent with their child loving him into this world, and loving him out of this world, will never be forgotten. What a beautiful life Thomas lived.:001_wub:
Cindy in C-ville
I did go back and add a *warning* to the original post, but I couldn't get a warning in the Subject Line. If there is a way to do that, could someone let me know? I truly did not intend for anyone to get hurt and was not making a political statement. Tree House Academy
I have never experienced a loss - I can't even imagine. That was the most heartwrenching and truly beautiful act of love I have ever seen. I would never have the strength to do what those two parents did. Never. In that child's short life, he experienced nothing but unconditional love. How many of us can say that? I am still crying. How sad.

Sweetpeach
There is deep, supernatural love and joy that accompanies unfathomable pain and heartache. I was expecting something horrible. I saw two people loving their baby under intense diresse. Not certain I could walk that path with the grace and courage they displayed. The docs/nurses/hospice workers really made the best of a terrible situation and showed the parents love and compassion even though they KNEW the child would not survive. That was not the case of the other baby. No one knew that the baby would not survive and yet medical staff chose to do nothing to help.
