Thinking ahead to next year

Recommended Posts

I am rethinking my 8 yo's plans for next year. I was planning on BJU homesat for grammar and math, but I don't know if that is a good idea now. What is a good, gentle grammar book for him? I am thinking he could benefit from a manipulative based math, so I was thinkign MUS? Or?

I did purchase Barton's and will use that and a handwriting program, probably HWT. Not sure if I will add in anything else or not.

For science and history I think we are going to just read some good books and have fun. Nice and low key.

Shurley Grammar was really easy for us because it is primarily oral. It helped my dd establish a sound foundation for later grammar programs.

MUS and RightStart are both good manipulative-based math programs. If your son likes a workbook approach, Moving With Math is very good and also contains manipulatives for illustrating concepts.

DVDs are great for science and history too.

I recently saw a BJU home stat english class for grade 4. I thought it was really well done. Even in light of your son's probable medical condition, I think you could go ahead with the programs you had already planned. I think the BJU stuff is engaging and gentle. He might like it.

I saw your post regarding his seizure. That must have been really scarry. I hope he's feeling better today. Take care.
