K-FL
Our group has a number of rising 1st time high schoolers & I'm thinking I'd like to do a class for the moms. What do you think should be covered? TIA!
Sunshine State Sue
I loaned out notes I got from a seminar. Some things that were very helpful: How to define a credit - carnegie units - finish the book - there was at least one more way How to demonstrate your knowledge - powerpoint presentation - write a report - create a play - give a speech/lecture - she had at least 100 ways Your particular state college entrance requirements Your particular state high school graduation requirements Your particular community college dual enrollment policy
Kareni
To Sue's fine list above, I'd add: samples of various transcripts the suggestion to keep a reading list and the recommendation to read widely (links to various reading lists might also be helpful) information about testing (PSAT, SAT and ACT, SAT subject tests, AP, CLEP) a link to the SAT question of the day a list of helpful books for the college bound (dealing with the admission process, writing essays, financial aid, etc.) Regards, Kareni
Patricia in WA
There is a woman in my state who goes around giving lectures. She also produces material you can use at home. I have heard her speak a few times and she is pretty good. She also has office hrs where you can call her for free with questions. Check her site out.
