Aunty Social
...how do you tell who is reputable and who is, well, not? I'm very interested in learning more about the growing, harvesting, uses and preparation of herbs (and essential oils), and in making some of my own skin care and first aid treatments. I've done some reading, and experimented with a couple of the most innocuous herbs and oils, but really don't want to go any farther without some guidance since herbs can do harm just as easily as good if misused. (I'm thinking correspondence/distance learning). One preference. I look at herbs as being given to us by God to aid us in our daily lives/health/well being. I am able to learn from someone with a mother earth/pagan philiosophy, but would prefer someone who thinks along the same lines I do. TIA for any help! OrganicAnn
I'd start by looking at books about the plants themselves. How to grow them. There are also old books about what herbs are used for. Like from Thomas Jefferson's era. Also books about wildflower might be useful. Yule Gibbons wrote alot of books recording everything from old wives tales on about plants.
