Blue Hen
DS and I are starting our Physics w/ Calculus (AP Physics C) course work. We started on Monday and are finishing up Ch 2 (Motion in One-Dimension) We're using both the Giancoli Physics for Scienctist & Engineers, 3rd ED, and Halliday Physics, 5th Ed. Does a solution manual exist for either book? I found online a few of the Halliday's problems in a solution manual however it only goes up to Ch 3 and there are only a few problems per chapter. On the one hand working through these problems is FUN :D . I love math: it's remembering how to work the formulas that is a bit time-consuming right now. I'm enjoying it and while it has rekindled fond memories of doing this Physics as an undergrad I can see this endeavor taking oodles of my time this year. Just wondering what other moms have done whose kids have prepared for the AP Physics C tests. Thanks, Carole
In The Great White North
Do you have this? http://omnis.if.ufrj.br/~barthem/fisica2/Solucao.pdf originally from Kathy in Richmond in this thread http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?p=934075#post934075 We just started Halliday. Halftime Hope
Here's something to work with: :the Giancoli SM does exist, at least for the 4th ed., in 3 volumes. ISBN: 978-0-13227324-4 or the ten digit ISBN ends in -1 Maybe with the info there, author's name, etc. you can find the 3ed SM. I can often find things on www.bestbookbuys.com by searching by author name, b/c it generates a list of all the author's books, not just the current one. Kathy in Richmond
Carole, I sent you a PM. Thanks, GWN, for finding that old thread and posting the link to the online solution manual. I think it's a wonderful resource! Good luck to everyone attempting this course! I had a lot of fun re-learning the material with my kids. If you get stuck on any particular problem, give me a shout. If it's one of the ones that my kids did, I still have my worked-out solutions. ~Kathy
dragon_horse_0002
Hi Kathy, I found in Amazon only Volume2 Physics Resnick, Halliday & Krane; 5th Edition. I don't see the Volume1 anywhere. Do you have the ISBN of both? Did your kids take any Physics before Giancoli (then Halliday)? Greatly appreciated for your sharing syllabus. Kathy in Richmond
Here are the isbn's for Resnick, Halliday & Krane, 5th edition: Volume 1: 0-471-32057-9 Volume 2: 0-471-40194-3 My son completed a year of Giancoli physics prior to this course; my daughter jumped right into Resnick et al. The criterion I use is that I like them to have completed a full year of calculus (BC level) before I do calc-based physics with them. hth, ~Kathy

dragon_horse_0002
Thank you Kathy for all the information about AP Physics. It is invaluable to me. I do some more search of Physics Resnick, Halliday & Krane. Here is what I found from Amazon: -The 4th Ed Volume 2 Extended (ISBN-13: 978-0471548041) has 688 pages, the same number of pages the 5th Ed Volume2, but different publsihers and 10 years between 2 editions. I don't know how much difference in the contents of the 2 editions, but the price of the 4th is basically your shipping. -The 4th Ed Volume1 (ISBN-13: 978-0471804581) has 656 pages, in compare the 624 pages in the 5th Ed. The 3rd edition is a different story. They are only 400 pages for each volume. So I think the 4th Ed is much closer to the 5th Ed. For the price, I went head and ordered the 4th Ed for now. I will know more when I receive the books. All the info that I quote is here based on Amazon info (sometimes they are not quite accurate). Hope it help for people who are in buget and who need the books for reference.
