Susann
So here's what we've done:9th grade- Abeka Grammar 9, Smarr Introduction to Literature, comp w/a local teacher (who left ps because she got tired of being told to dumb it down-she's tough-my kiddos will never forgive me!)10th- Abeka grammar 10, Smarr Medieval to Early Renaissance Lit, comp w/teacher11th-Smarr Later Renaissance to Romanticism, comp w/teacherI have grades for all the ABeka work and for the portfolios each year. The Smarr lit only has voc quizzes. While we've discussed all the lit, I don't really have any grades for it. Would you just :a)list it as Language Arts 9, 10, etc. on the transcript and then on the couse description page list the materials used. (Would you call it something else??)Or b)list it as Grammar & composition 9, 10, etc. and list the Literature separately and use the voc quiz scores as the grade?I will be so glad when this transcript is done!!!!!!! I'd call it English 9, English 10, etc, and I'd give them a grade for the discussion. Then I'd role all the grades for everything they had done together for their end of the class grade. Grades include tests and quizzes, class participation, and daily homework. You can assign weights to each grade if you'd like--perhaps 25% of the grade for each. You can also weight the various parts of what they studied: Literature 50%, Composition 50%. And, perhaps, 25% of the Comp grade could be the grammar scores. Make it reflect what you think is important and how much of each they did. I tend to make 1 semester Comp and 1 Literature, so their grade reflects 50/50. If you are heavier in one area, the grade can reflect that. It is 5:30 here and I can't sleep. If this does not make any sense, blame it on my meds. They keep my room from spinning, but they also keep me awake! Ugh. Inner ear troubles are not a lot of fun.:tongue_smilie: Jean
Susann
Thanks, Jean! I think that's the way I'm leaning. Hope you feel better today and the room has stopped spinning! Anyone else have any suggestions?
