magpiegirl
My DS6.5 just discovered the recent book by Stephen and Lucy Hawking called "George's Secret Key to the Universe" and we are loving it so far. I thought I'd pass it on - it's "targeted" to 9-12 year olds. Melisa
Myrtle
That is a wonderful book! I was reading it aloud to my first and second grader for a while and they were learning and retaining more than I expected.
ArwenA
Already loved here too. :)
Desert Rat
I borrowed it from the library and plan to buy it later this year. I hope he or his daughter have the opportunity to write more adventures for George!
Capt_Uhura
I just picked up this book today from the library. Can someone tell me if the photos in the back are supposed to all have the same caption? Every photo has "During the day, there is only one star that can be seen in the sky." Some of the captions aren't complete. thanks! Capt_uhura

Desert Rat
I don't have the book in front of me, but I would have remembered if all the captions were the same. I think it must be a misprint. To my recollection, the captions under pictures matched the pictures. HTH
Capt_Uhura
Thanks! I ordered it from Amazon so hopefully this one will be printed properly. It's funny - all the captions are the same and some end half way, or drop the last word or have no period at the end. Just weird....
moki4
We just ordered it last night! Thanks for all the tips!:001_smile:
Laura Corin
We got it from the library yesterday and Hobbes has already finished it. He loved it and asked if there was a sequel. Laura
Desert Rat
I'll cross my fingers with you, Hobbes! I'm hoping for a sequel as well. :o)
KarenNC
I just picked up this book today from the library. Can someone tell me if the photos in the back are supposed to all have the same caption? Every photo has "During the day, there is only one star that can be seen in the sky." Some of the captions aren't complete. thanks! Capt_uhura If you can tell me which pages the pictures you mean are between (in my copy, there are several pages of photos inserted at various points in the book), I can give you the correct captions. I am not seeing any photos at all with the caption you describe. pp. 58-59 first photo is of the moon, caption begins: As the Earth's moon rises just before dawn... pp. 122-123 first is a two photo spread, caption for top begins: At the center of these two giant lobes... pp. 186-187 first photo is of Jupiter, caption begins: Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system.... pp 266-267 first photo is of the Andromeda galaxy, caption begins: True color image of the Andromeda galaxy..... magpiegirl
My DS6.5 thinks that George should explore on the atomic level next time. His favorite insult right now (in joking) is "what a weak boson!" <giggle> The idea definately has possibilities :) Does anyone else have any related suggestions for books for the young science fanatic?
